The owner and chief cook of Marcy’s Diner, located in Maine, Darla Neugebauer received backlash via social media for yelling at a toddler for crying incessantly during a recent visit. Neugebauer wrote on Facebook that the girl had been crying for over 40 minutes, when she slammed her hands down on the counter and told the young child, “This has got to stop!”

The Associated Press reports, Neugebauer observed the parents of the 21-month-old child during their visit. They ordered three pancakes for their daughter but didn’t feed her when the food arrived. Neugebauer said of her behavior, “Life’s full of choices and you’ve got to live with all of them, I chose to yell at a kid, it made her shut up, which made me happy, it made my staff happy, it made the 75 other people dining here happy, and they left. They may never come back, other people may not come in. Their loss really.”

He's got two choices. Put up with kids or turn his diner into an adult restaurant. And say you must be 16 or older to enter. The people will sue for age discrimination.

I don't see any adult restaurants are successful unless they are bar.

40 minutes of crying?...and the parents not taking this kid out of the restaurant so the other patrons could enjoy their meal?...I would have been livid too! And would tell them not to come back to my establishment again...

The owner is over the line with his yelling in restaurant... there is better ways to handle this situation. He could politely ask the parent to control their baby or ask them to leave. On the other hand, it's the parent's responsibility to control their kid's behavior, so both sides is in the wrong.

If a parent can't control their kids, they can pay the food, then leave on their own to save their embarrassment and not disturb everyone else. Having the baby crying for 40 mins makes everyone's stay unpleasant.

I dare you bring a small child in that place, The Hostess will tell you that you cant bring that kid in.

Your website doesn't say that kids are not allowed so stop lying to us.

Read the site i gave you. It says resevations its an high class restaurant. Celebrities eat there.

Please indicate whether you have theater plans, so we can ensure a perfect dining experience for your party.
Please note: jackets are not required for lunch service, however jeans and tennis shoes are NOT permitted in the dining room.
The age requirement in the formal dining room is 12yrs and older. Thank you.

12 years old are kids.

They are very fancy restaurant or combined with bar - you don't see many restaurants disallow kids to eat.

Most restaurants are family friendly.

Celebrities have been known to take their small tots to restaurants like these often. Same with the very wealthy.

Reservations mean just that.. reservations- it can be for anybody from practically birth to...100 or whatever age lol.

I responded to what I read in the article..."40 minutes" of crying and the parents not feeding the child....So, if indeed, the crying went on and on, and the Parents just sat there earing their own meals...and not having the courtesy of other patrons trying to enjoy their meals and paying for it....to feed the child...take it into the bathroom to see what's wrong or trying to console it to stop crying....and to take the child out of the restaurant and get their meal "to go"...

Seriously, a child crying for 40 minutes?...Something's wrong!...It's happened in movie theatres too...as for us deafies...we can't hear it...but hearing patrons can....

Still, I would never let my child cry for 40 minutes!...What the hell is wrong with these parents?

For me, if I see toddlers crying for long time - I will pay food and give to them.

Most parents are incompetent nowadays.
