White Castle

You can buy those little burgers in the frozen food section now.

My Dad was really enthused about White Castle from when he lived for years in Chicago.

Really cheap food . I wonder where all the White Castle restaurants are now? I should look that up. Don't think there are any in Iowa.

I tried the frozen box and it does not taste the same. :( I like chicken sandwich too!! onion rings and ff and more!! :giggle:

We don't have any in the small town where I live and I did wonder how the frozen ones turned out. I have seen them at the grocery store but not bought any.

I do see mention of them in St. Louis from time to time.

Those you that find them so special might enjoy the story of what happened to me in 1980. I went from outside St. Louis to visit friends in Houston, TX. They and another couple had both transferred there from St. Louis with Ozark Airlines. When the guy of the other couple discovered that I had come through St. Louis he said that he wished he had known that ahead of time and had me bring some White Castle burgers along. I had to tell him that he would have been out of luck anyway because, at that time, Ozark served Mt. Vernon, IL and I started my trip there just transferring in St. Louis.

I tried those frozen ones a long time ago.. they were... okay.

I haven't been to an actual White Castle place yet- would like to try and see if the burgers are better there. The frozen WC burgers (mini ones if I remember) tasted kind of odd to me.

There was a White Castle a block from Gallaudet in my day...and I wonder if they are still in the area....

Really? I don't remember White Castle being near Gallaudet at all. Roy Rogers I remember (yummy), I THINK McDonald's or Burger King. G&G's Italian Restaurant (VERY good food Mmmmm). That's all I can remember. There wasn't a huge amount of places close to Gally when I was there.

From what I hear, more businesses are moving in or will be , near Gallaudet- now is a great time to be a student there lol. Yes I'm still pondering going back for a second bachelor's degree.. alas.. no money/funds.

Mind you, I entered Gallaudet in the fall of 1962.....I have a hunch that there aren't any White Castle units in D.C. any more.....

aww bummer. I was in DC for 12 yrs and didn't see any white castle.

Ate at White Castle twice.

I do not believe there ever had White Castle in DC area. White Castle is family only franchise, meaning it is not public and is privately owned company. They decided to keep it small and they made better profit benchmark than McDonald (Citied in wiki), so they dont see reason to expand their franchises and factories. The headquarter is in Columbus, Ohio, first restaurant was in Kansas. They didn't expand fast, and I don't think they ever shut down a restaurant. And they are two of the oldest fast food restaurant.

Just check their website, link http://www.whitecastle.com/company/timeline So, there have never been a White Castle in DC area ever. Maybe mobile one for special events.

Also, I found out why they won't expand White Castle as far as here Rochester, from Ohio is due to quality control issues. the farther the delivery the food taste quality drops considerable, especially during either heat waves or frigid like the last time.

I guess you didn't see my post or something else? I ate at the White Castle a block from Gallaudet numerous times. I believe they were like 15-20 cents each back then....

I google up and found that the closest White Castle ever exist near DC area is in NJ area. I found nothing near Florida avenue in Washington D.C. And is that Gally street, right?

Done E mail to White Castle and am waiting to hear from their response whether they had White Castle in D.C. in their history.

Listen up, ok....I entered Gally in the fall of 1962 and ate at the White Castle near the campus for several years. TODAY, there are NO White Castles in D.C., got it now??? It is all there above.

Edited to add: You emailed the company? What a laugh and a half!

Perhaps that you forgot it was all dream, and thought it was real. :giggle: like "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle"

Seriously, I know you are older than me and I bet you and I have some good memories of some fast food joints that was founded and buried (Gone) forever. What I am saying is that you MIGHT have thought you went to white castle which could have slightly different name or something different and you mistook them as White Castle. Sometimes this happens to me. I usually enjoying nogislaticing (SP).

For example, I ate at Winky's up from Thornburg Bridge when I was mischievous kid. I am afraid 20 years later, I would have been thinking it was Wendy's instead of really it was Winky's.

Flattery will get you nowhere; I stand by what I said. Now, I have seen you and Jiro go at it many times like rabid dogs and if this is going that way, I will have to put a block on you.

Wow, thats great! One less headache for me, go ahead block me. Have fun!
