Mallard Duck and the nest with eggs in it

Just don't be the first thing the ducklings see when they hatch, otherwise they will think you are the mama and follow you everywhere. :)

I think that's because it's the safest way to nest the eggs.
 
Mallard ducks are beautiful...and sure hope all the babies will be fine....only thing I can suggest is just to keep the kids and animals away from the nest and the mamma....Really sweet!...

my hub knows we need to leave this mama duck but he can't resist it. He took a picture of this mama duck.

I always thought it was cool that ducks sleep one half their brain at a time and one eye open.

I wonder where papa duck is , he would keep more than an eye on the husband . We have wild turkeys come into our yard and the male turkey is very protected of his women!

There a bird that had a nest in a tree next to a sidewalk that got a lot of use and people riding their bikes where getting attack by one of the parent . The bird would fly down and use it beck to peck at the person's head! There was a story in the newspaper warning people of the attack bird.

yeah oh when my hub and I didnt know why duck was around in our backyad. He needs to clean up a little in the backyard like picking up some old leaves or anything. He did some from the right side then go around to the left side after half hour later, where the nest was. He was looking into the bushes and SPOTTED the nest. It just dawns on him to realize why Duck was around here. THen he saw mama duck walking toward and quacks at him, and he stepped back and get back off from her. :giggle: He came to me and told me about it. He stopped cleaning in the backyard after he found out. SO he ll wait for her and the babies to leave..
 
My son was attacked by a male Geese...:giggle:...he was "mimicking" their sounds..."Honk, Honk"....guessing the Geese thought he was another male and started chasing my son all the way home....:laugh2:

And years ago...we bought 2 baby ducks at the Flea Market...they were so cute!...I kept them in the spare bathroom tub...then when they got older in the yard....but eventually, we took them to the river where other ducks were and let them go.....
 
Geese will attack for no reason. They are mean and hurt when they bite!

My niece was bitten by a duck when she was feeding some ducks bread. She was a little girl and it really hurt her fingers

Yeah...most animals are that way...(even humans)...it's sort of like ...."wham, bam...and thank you mamm!"....
 
BAD NEWS!!! :(


I am not sure why or what happened.

Early saturday morning, I saw Duck was there. Then during the day time, the next door they had mow the grasses and then the next door, kids came into our backyard then my hub had to take care of the backyard, he tried not to mow the grasses close to the duck area. THen we left for dinner then I came back, and saw no duck but the nest with eggs in it. Beautiful eggs, turqoise eggs. the next day which was sunday, still no duck but eggs are still there all day and all night, I admit i was worried. So i checked around 8 pm no duck but eggs. this morning, i came, no duck and NO EGGS! I don't see any broken egg shells at all. Its clean out empty. I did look around in the backyard. i found some feathers all over on grasses. I wasn't sure if creature took eggs but i dont know how the feathers got there that was a few feet away from the nest. nest is empty.

Sounds like a fox got mother and eggs both.
