Know how cable companies get away with charging more for channels?
They slowly "upgrade" popular channels to the next "class" while each "class" costs a bit more. As the years go by, more channels are "upgraded" to higher "classes". When there are no more channels in the lowest "class", they simply rename those "classes" again.
For instance, there are 20 channels at the beginning. They call it BASIC for $10 a month.
They then add STANDARD for $15 a month. 5 channels are upgraded from BASIC to STANDARD. Now, BASIC has 15... STANDARD has 20.
They then add PREMIUM for $20 a month. 5 channels are upgraded from BASIC to STANDARD and 5 from STANDARD to PREMIUM. Now, BASIC has 10 channels... STANDARD has 15 channels... PREMIUM has 20 channels.
They then add ULTRA for $25 a month. 5 channels are upgraded from BASIC to STANDARD , 5 from STANDARD to PREMIUM, and 5 from PREMIUM to ULTRA. Now, BASIC is free and has 5 channel... STANDARD has 10 channels... PREMIUM has 15 channels... ULTRA has 20 channels.
Then they decide to upgrade that 5 last channel from BASIC to STANDARD. Now, there's only STANDARD, PREMIUM, and ULTRA.
A year later, they rename all categories. STANDARD is now called BASIC with 10 channels, PREMIUM is now called STANDARD with 15 channels, ULTRA is now called PREMIUM with 20 channels.
The whole cycle repeats again. That's the world of sneaky marketing.
There are Channel 11s all over the country so it would have been nice if you said where the Channel 11 you are talking about is in your title. For instance the one in the St. Louis area is an independent station not associated with Viacom. Or referred to Viacom & Direct TV dispute.
Channel 11 in NY is what station?
Basically, cable/dish is charging us for regular TV (i.e. ABC, NBC, CBS, etc...) while we can get it for free by using antenna...
That's the exact reason we now have an expensive antenna and watch free over the air programming!
Yeah, I know what you mean. My local had disputed with one of our local channel but it was resolved in few days. lol Good thing it happened before new season starts!

I had never heard of this happening before with a TV station . I heard of
writers having a walk on jay Leno . I thought Comcast removed the channel and I was really pissed off.
Wow...I didn't notice and I sometimes watch the channel for Masterpiece. I didn't realize we count 7, 8, 9, 10, 12....what gives?
