Go to the relay related threads in the Relay section and you should be able to make a new thread raising an topic about your VCO relay however there may be some relevant information you can find. :)

Welcome to AllDeaf!

As for your question, I don't have an answer for you... since I've never used Canadian relay services and I'm from America. :(

I live in Canada.

What questions do you have? VCO works by using a VCO enabled TTY/captioned phone and calling 711 to place the call ... When the operator comes on the line you state that you want to place a VCO call - then you're good to go.

I have used a Ultra Tech 1140 TTY since January 1996.

VCO is a term for Voice Carry Over. The Relay operator is keying the other party's voice to you and you answer using your voice.

There is also TEXT which is "similar" to computers however the other party must have a TTY with text. You don't need the Relay service. The tax department does have Text and I have you used it. Unfortunately not too many companies have this feature.

711 is the number to access Relay. Here in Ontario reaches either Kitchener or Quebec City- 24 hours a day.

If one is new to TTY suggest advise the operator of this fact. That is what i did way back in 1996 and appreciate the assistance of Bell Relay Service-back then. I am well aware there is a "new company" now. To me no difference in the service provided.

Aside: I have Bell Canada Telemessage service which "tapes" all incoming calls and I duly advise Relay of that fact as they will give whatever the message is to me. It is a service I pay for each month- on my Bell Canada phone bill.

The above is my direct experience with the Relay Service.

Updating to 2014. The Relay service is in Quebec City.
I still live Toronto.

Also the number of Bell Canada Telemessage service which Realy accesses on my behalf is:
877 235 5777 give your phone # 416 xxx xxxx and acess code- XX XX XX. I advise Relay to delete the message and if the unheard message on tape is telemarketing just delete without keying anything.

To the best of knowledge Video/I P etc is not at the present time a reality in Canada.
How much it would cost the person to join-unknown?
