This is what happens

I do know that both my kids had programs in their Elementary school with a program from DARE. Sadly, son does not remember what he did at all, just that the school celebrated "Red Ribbon week" and daughter remembers it all. Go figure! Daughter has said that it is that program that still keeps her from even wanting to try drugs or alcohol. Son, on the other hand, thinks he would like to "try". He knows it isn't safe or actually advisable. He knows his cousins are drinkers and smokers. He knows that one of his uncles went through AA and NA and is still dry and clean. He also knows that the other uncle is still a drinker and smoker. He knows my father was an alcoholic. Even after knowing all this, he wants to try.

Exactly. Fear tactics and just say no do not work. And DARE makes the huge mistake of actually trying to make kids believe that the effects and consequences of smoking a joint are the same as shooting heroin. That actually encourages kids to try harder drugs. Your daughter is probably one of those kids that would never have any interest in trying drugs or alcohol to start with, even without having been to a DARE program.

Probably not nearly as much. You should have seen the fights I saw as a kid on "Foamer Homer" nights

As for violence being an epidemic at sporting events. :dunno: But I do know that Veterans stadium in Philadelphia had a jail inside and the new "Linc" had one too. I say had because they closed that jail because fan behavior has improved.

I did not have to go very far to see a drunk person get angry ! My dad was an abused man and when he drank he loves to blames everyone one else for getting upset! Drinking impaired my dad reasoning and that made thing worst .

All I have to do is go to family reunions to see the effect of too much drinking. :P When either my mother or my sister go there, things can get very nasty.

I am aware of that. And you can use anyone of them to see how many hate groups there are coming from American organization of such. One link would no doubt have been ignored.;) These links were all found in a few seconds time, just to demonstrate that the information is there if one chooses to educate oneself. However, if one chooses to minimize and ignore the implications of the number of hate groups in America, one will focus on the number of links.
I actually looked at the list of these hate groups. For one thing, they weren't 1,000 individual groups. They listed each chapter of each group to make 1,000. Also, it's very interesting what they consider to be hate groups. I looked at the list as broken down by state.

I think it would behoove others to examine this so-called list of 1,000, especially for their own states.

BTW, Nation of Islam, The Redneck Shop and the Jewish Defense League are groups on their list for my state.

Yeah, and DARE stops kids from using drugs, too...

These stats would not be available if MADD was making such a huge impact at high schools. This approach just does not work, people.
Why do you mention MADD in a post about DARE and drug use?

Yeah, and he probably blamed the alcohol, as well. But, as you said, he had issues even without the alcohol. It didn't create his issues out of a normally functioning, happy man.

Did you read the stats? They are about alcohol related fatalities in teens. If MADD was having such a huge impact, we would not be seeing this many children dying from alcohol related causes. It really isn't difficult to grasp.

I was comparing DARE to MADD because they use the same ineffective methodologies.

The fact that it was necessary to include it in the structure at all says volumes.:cool2:

You said that already..... But.... they don't need it now. Maybe the good ole USA ain't so bad after all

Naw, they just send them straight on to the local jail. Saves time, trouble, and expense.

The stadium opened on August 3, 2003, after two years of construction that began on May 7, 2001 and replaced Veterans Stadium as the Eagles' home stadium. While its total capacity barely changed, the new stadium contains double the number of luxury and wheelchair-accessible seats, along with more modern services. The field's construction included several light emitting diode (LED) video displays from Daktronics in Brookings, South Dakota, as well as more than 624 feet (190 m) of ribbon board technology. Like the Vet, Lincoln Financial Field had a jail inside the stadium, that contained four cells. However, this jail was done away within two years as the level of unruly behavior had dropped considerably from the worst days of the Vet. The Linc also plays host to several soccer games each year, and in the past (2005, 2006) it has played host to the NCAA lacrosse national championship; it will do so again in 2013.

I have a cousin that really looked up to my dad as he traveled around the world and had colorful stories to tell. My cousin when to our summer camp one summer and my dad got drunk ! We where eating dinner and the table was a solid oak table about 6 ft long and full of food dad took the table with one arm and threw is across the room! My cousin jumped behind a couch and freaked out! He never saw his uncle or any person get angry like that! He stopped looking up to my dad after that! I know what you mean about getting nasty!!

Such abusive behavior. Your dad must have been a miserable man.

My dad was not a happy man , he was very a very troubled man that had a lot things that haunted him. He never forgave his father for not paying a doctor 50 cents to save his middle finger on his left hand. He played the violin and losing his finger kept him from becoming well known. Dad was very jealous of me as I almost lost my middle finger on my right hand and the doctor was able to save it. This reminded my dad of his horrible father and I think this was why he abused me so much. He was not able to hurt his father so he abused me !
I am HOH hearing and had speech effect and I was picked on because of that and this reminded dad of getting bullied for having a Russian accent. Dad just wanted to forget his painful childhood and he saw me as a reminder of it!

It is really a sad story. He didn't have to live with all that misery, and most of all, he didn't have to make those around him so miserable. I wish that he had been able to get the help he needed to deal with his issues so that he and his family did not have to suffer.

Same here! Dad was such a brilliant and gifted man but he would never gotten help, he did not think a lot about doctors . He tried to escape his pass by drinking but it only made thing worst. It took me years to realize my mother was a viticim too and that she was not strong enough to stop the abuse.

Maybe I read too fast and missed it, but did you say what you think is an effective methodology?
