Do you want to be charged for using your debit card?

I am curious about the ATM fees.

Do your banks charge you with ATM fee when you withdraw cash from ATM machine at other banks, stores or other places?

The only time I get charged is if I make a withdrawal from a different financial institution or from an independent ATM. I never use them though, I always do it at my bank. I never get charged for any transactions at any stores though.

Simple solution....change banks. With credit cards MOST people end up spending more than $60 a year.

I pay with cash or check . My bank does not made us pay yet , and I refuse to pay any bank to spend my own money!! If other people want to throw their money away that their business!

You know, I'm glad writing cheques is something of the past in Canada. Most stores don't accept cheques here, we don't do them electronically like they do in the USA. Here, we just use cash, debit and credit cards. The problem with writing cheques is that you have to remember and keep records so you don't go over the balance. It's too much of a hassle.

You should be doing that if you're using debit cards too; same principle.

"The troubled bank, already besieged by multibillion-dollar lawsuits and massive financial losses, saw its stock fall more than 2 percent in late-morning trading. The shares have plunged almost 44 percent for the quarter, the worst-performing in the Dow Jones industrial average by far. For the year, the stock is down 56 percent."

That's what receipts are for. Besides, I always remember what my balance is. However, the difference is, the debit card will withdraw the money instantly, the cheques don't. It will be done at a later period. That's one thing I like about debit cards, I don't have to worry about the cheques bouncing. The worst part about using cheques is that people often DON'T cash them until a few months later. So that's why people are better off using cash, debit card or credit card.

People can hold onto cheques as long as they want, so if they want to cash it 6 months later, they can.

You would still write the amount down in your checking book to figure the new balance, don't you? If not, then your brain works like a computer.

it's a small price to pay for convenience..... :)

but you can just go to ATM before you go to store. that's why I like BOA. Its ATMs are everywhere. Its customer service is excellent. I've been treated well by them when I had problems.

With credit union... well - let's just say you get what you pay for.

I was treated horribly at my local BOA and I got out of there as quick as possible. Closed all account. They were not deaf friendly and called the police on me just for using pen and paper method of communicating.

Right, I never have to. I've done it my whole life and I'm still debt-free, well, except for the mortgage.

I know a lot of people have to write them down to keep track of their banking activities though. Not to mention that having online access to my bank account is a nice bonus too. This way, I don't have to check my account at my local bank to make sure there's no suspicious activities.

I guess I will have to just write checks and when we need money for some place that doesn't take a check, then I will have to get cash. This is ridiculous. I use my debit card for everything. I think I actually write maybe 2-3 checks a month. I can see that changing now.

We do not have CC's as that got us into trouble before and it was h3ll paying them off.

There are some places around here where the checks clear instantly. WalMart treats it like a debit transaction and you get your check back with the receipt.

Yes, I'm just curious, do you get slammed with a big fee if the cheque bounces even though it's done like a debit transaction?

No shit! :jaw:

At my current bank, it's $38 for each overdraft. I have set the parameters for my debit card to not allow the transaction if there is no money. Haven't had to worry about that since I am getting quite a bit better at keeping a meticulous checkbook and I followup with it on Quicken on my computer.

Bank cards can be set to prevent overdraft. If there is not enough in the account, the transaction will not go through.

The people at the bank should had been charged with gross misconduct or something.

Police did not do anything except for bill them for a false alarm on the alarm button. However, all the employees involved were transferred and had to take a bunch of training classes.

Right, that's what I have set up. With a check, it doesn't work that way. They will still take it and let it go through and you will incur a charge for the overdraft.

Which is why I don't like cheques. People often end up screwing themselves, especially when the cheques are held for months at a time before being cashed in.

They thought it was a note to rob the bank.

OIC, I usually let a person know that I am deaf before writing. I guess you didn't so they thought you were a robber. Now I think that's funny. So what happened after that? Didn't they feel like fools?
