A person I know is all pissed off because NFL will have several football games today. She said it is a disrespect to those who have sacrified to have people spending today rooting for their favorite football teams. She said NFL can give up one day of football games.

I disagreed...if we suspended any games today, that is stopping an American tradition and allowing the terrorists win in a way. I want to spend today enjoying my freedom to root for my favorite team. I told that person that I will still remember but instead of being sad, being happy that we are still here as Americans celebrating an American tradition.

Am I callous?

I agree with you. We should move on. Remembering the event, yes. But the more we make a big deal about it, the more the terrorists will gloat.

Even the football games will have strong military presence and themes. Phooey.

No, ur not callous!...Life is for the living...death is for rememberance and the past...even tho' it's 9-11 and it was on my mind at breakfast, we said a small prayer and got about our day...

We're watching the Jags vs Titans right now, along with some Salsa & chips and drinks....We do not plan to spend all day dwelling on 9-11. Life is too short to dwell upon such sad things, we can pay our respects but we still have to go on breathing and thanking the man upstairs for another day.

Do you think the NY Jets game was purposely set for Sunday night football because of today's anniversary?

absolutely not! Football is America's number one sport. We ought to carry out the traditions that represent our country. NFL pays great respect for such a day, our country must go on!

Possibly, it's not insensitive thing , it brings what today was in our history,
never forgotten what this day meant to many Americans. Football is America's no.1 sport.

Tell her that NFL is raising money for 9/11 charities by auctioning autographed game day players jerseys. How cool is that?

Yes, Jets are playing tonight b/c of 10th anniversary. I remember hearing about it on tv.

I'm not a football watcher, but if the person is so bothered by it, why don't they just change the channel?

They could've changed it to MSNBC. They've been showing 9/11 stuff ALL DAY. In fact, they're showing a documentary/special about the hijackings right now. I believe History Channel has been showing 9/11-related programming as well.

It's not like EVERY CHANNEL is playing football. If you don't like it, there are other channels/things to watch.

The funny thing is that this person is a die-hard Colts fan. She loves the NFL but is mad at the fact that the games went on on a sad day.

Yes, it was. Just like the U.S.Open and the Mets were schedule today.
The movies, malls, generally ALL activities when on. Wal-mart was open.

It's like Memorial Day. We remember the fallen that have died in wars while also celebrating our freedom as Americans. Many stores remain open on Memorial Day such as Walmart and sporting events often take place on Memorial Day as well.

Why dec 7 sad?

December 7th, 1941 is the day Japan attacked our base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. My grandmother's little brother was not killed in the initial attack, but died afterwards when unexploded ordinance went off killing him and seven other Navy sailors. He was an SK-1 and was 20 years old.

He is buried at the National Cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii.

My nana's little brother was on an LST that was hit by a Japanese kamikaze pilot. He and one other sailor were the only survivors onboard - the other sailors were either killed in the initial explosion, were consumed by smoke and flames, or drowned.

He currently resides in Long Island, NY. He was born and raised in Brooklyn.

Is she bothered by football on December 7th?

If she was, she didnt express that. I went to work today and we were all talking about the Raven's win. A few coworkers did express that it was tastless to celebrate football on such a sad anniversary. oh boy...
