My BB Curve pearl trackball quit scrolling down. It scrolls left and right, and up but not down. It's very hard to use now. :(

Any suggestions?

I did remove battery and rebooted.

You have to order new trackball part or clean up dirty trackball.

Just about anything with a trackball will likely get dirty and cause scrolling problems. I'm always cleaning out my mouse from time to time. You'll be surprised how much dirt gets down there.

You tell her. i'm not BB user

Thanks. :ty:

I'm afraid to take the trackball out. What if I mess it up and then nothing will work? It's such a tiny, sensitive part.

You can go to mobile store and someone may fix it for free.

You can do it. My friend did this and said it was easy. And she has a journalism degree. :)

I'm a journalist (retired), too. Does that somehow relate to working on BB's? :giggle:

I think not mechanically inclined. If you might buy a new one, it can't hurt to experiment with taking it out and cleaning.

I fell in mud once with my Blackberry and we took it apart to clean and it still worked.

Of course you may prefer a new phone.

I've had this one almost four years, so maybe it's time to get a new one. I found out that an upgrade would be free, so it might be worth it. I'm going to stop by T-Mobile after work today.

I was looking forward to getting a new Curve but it looks like I won't be able to any time soon. :(

The good news is, the pearl started scrolling again.

The bad news is, the rebates are for new customers only. If I upgrade, I have to pay the full $299 price. Forget it.

The worse news is, my debit card account number was stolen, probably a week ago, and someone charged over $1,700 worth of electronics from Finland to my card. So, even though my money is in my account, and I reported the fraud right away, I can't access for another 7-10 days. I had to get a new MasterCard and PIN. I can't use my savings or checking account or ATM. Nothing.

So, no new Blackberry for me.

Reba, I m thinking that you might buy unlocked BB curve. from Ebay or friend's. Not so expensive. I m sorry about fraud credit card.

Anyway, I have time to think about it. I can't buy anything at all for at least another week.

just cut a piece of paper about 1/4 wide and make taper at one end. insert taper into trackball area and use ball to roll paper into the ball area and back out the other side. then remove papr by rolling ball out and voila the paper knocks off the gunk off the track ball rollers and working right. I used this trick on my BB.
