Dangerous offender status for Deaf repeat sex offender

His trial went on for five weeks and it used up alot of interpreting services from one of the two interpreting services here. At the time, I had hard time to find interpreters for my work because they were there to provide their services for this defendant.

Now....ain't that something?...A "6 time offender"...so much more important than a law-abiding citizen who needs an interpretor for his work!...You've a right to be angry and disgusted!

Seems to me this guy thinks and believes he's "got an ace in the hole"...using his deafness as "an excuse" for showing his dick and molesting women....Wondering if they suggested using some kind of "healing treatment" for him that I've heard about?....Well, after 6 times of repeating this "little game of his "of exposing his dick and "feeling women up" against their will....Looks like it's NOT WORKING!

Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't even "flash" his dick in Court!...Deaf or not, this guy needs to be locked up and the key thrown away...who knows if he might even have raped a child!

Sounds like he belongs to a mental institution.

I agree. The problem there is finding a forensic hospital that can actually provide approrpiate services for the Deaf. So, instead of actually doing something to reduce his dangerousness, they are just practicing social control. Sad, isn't it?

Not sure why his trial is relevant to your workplace since everyone is entitled to a fair trial. It's hypocrisy to whinges about lack of equality between Deaf and hearing, but not grant Deaf charged with a crime the same access hearing criminals receive. Yes, the interpreter shortage sucks, but he is not the reason for the shortage.

The insidious slam here is a lowball.

fair trial? I dunno about you but 6 times? I think we've been more than fair to him. Now trial is not needed. Off with his naughty hands! :giggle:

Hearing sex offenders are still aware of everything being said in court. A Deaf sex offender is not. Why a Deaf sex offender is less important than a hearing sex offender? Frankly, royale is directing his frustration in the wrong channel.

Sighs...

There are two different kinds of interpreting services here in Ottawa. One of them is contracted by the Federal government to provide interpreting services for Deaf and hard of hearing federal employees and I happen to be one of these employees.

The contracted agency did not have many interpreters available for us as they struggled to make them available for us for the last five or six weeks. Many interpreters of the agency were assigned to this case during this time period. In addition, I did speak to most of those federal Deaf employees and we had similar experiences.

Also, some meetings require a specific security clearance from PWSGC, DND or another agency/department and only FOUR of their interpreters are cleared to top secret meetings where I often attend.

Do not get me wrong that I so firmly believe every Deaf and hard of hearing have their right to have interpreters in any settings like court proceedings.

Finally we CANNOT use interpreters from another agency for two reasons: contract and security clearance.

I am aware of the security protocol surrounding government jobs, but it still doesn't resolve or address the shortage of interpreters experienced in judicial matters at large.

curious - why does this sex offender need many terps? It sounds as if he's hogging up 5 terps for a trial.

It beats me out; however, I assume he needed four or five terps in this special circumstance.

O_O

what a sick man... he must be doing this out of mockery...

You'd would be happy to take advantage of the benefits to the accused in this country if you are ever arrested.

Why would he need 4 or 5 terps for a legal proceeding? I can't see any judge ordering 4-5 terps for a single defendent.

accused? I dunno about you but 6-times offender? SIX times? Definitely not an accusation in this case.

I'm all about fair trial and all but a repeated offender as bad as this guy? Enough is enough. Too bad Ottawa doesn't have "3 Strike Law" :aw:
