when it comes to probable cause, it's now officer's discretion. Doctor or lawmakers or individuals do not have any say in this matter.

Officers are highschool graduates with sticks. Doctors spend a decade or more of their life studying medicine. Who of those should have a say on what medical risks are acceptable for someone with a serious illness?

it applies to all law enforcement agencies such as FBI... State Police.... and they are college graduates with badges :)

again - doctors have absolutely no say in any matter when it comes to officer effectuating his legal action with probable cause against you because you must have done something that warranted it. It is entirely your choice to resist arrest or not. Doctor's note cannot exempt you from speeding or robbing a bank.

Since you can be in grave danger if your mask was removed.... I'm sure you have a doctor's note. It is entirely up to officer's discretion to detain you at station if he needs to do more checking depending on nature of your crime or situation.

You guys are getting WAY OT. The French law bans women wearing these things ANYWHERE.

Yes, it literally bans anyone from wearing them anywhere but their own home, and while attempting to point out that it is ridiculous to claim that such a ban is for "identification" purposes (when the understood spirit of the law is that it will only be applied to muslim women), I both got derailed and discovered that some people here think they know more than doctors.

The point is, I choose not live in a Muslim country because I like wearing shorts. This is the exact same thing but it is just late in being enforced. It is harsh now because it should never have been allowed in the first place. These extreme traditions should have been blocked as soon as they appeared.

It is not a religious garment but a traditional one. As said before you are free to move to a country more suitable to your likes and dislikes. If the country you currently reside in is incompatible then you should not expect the country to change for you.

What about those who were in the country for generations?

Amusing how people always assume that they are immigrants. A lot of Muslims in France were born there, not the Middle East. Besides, it's hardly a surprise knowing France's history.

Yeah, I know. I brace for the roaring protests, but this is islamophobia, pure and simple.

By choice. Now that choice is denied.

time is changing. marijuana was legal. open carry was legal. now it's not and it's regulated. deal with it :)

Marijuana is illegal thanks to the hemp farmers. They didn't want the competition so they got rid of it.

Oh, you will never know how well I deal with it. ;)

What, dare I ask, constitutes an "extreme tradition" in regards to clothing?

What if the woman question is born French, as are her parents, grandparents, etc? Do you really hold that it is reasonable to demand she attempt to immigrate to another country merely because she wishes to wear more clothing than most French people wear?

Also, it is very much a religious garment. At the least, many muslims believe it is an "extra good thing" (but not an obligation) to wear. A portion of muslims interpret the qur'an to mean that it is required.

"The Republic assures freedom of conscience. It guarantees the free exercise of religious worship under the sole restrictions hereafter in the interest of public order. The Republic does not grant recognition nor pay nor subsidises any church."
It sounds like the "in the interest of public order" could be the loophole.
