Not all Americans support them.

What some individuals do doesn't mean all Americans do the same.

So, the Great Melting Pot isn't so homozygous after all! It has been 200-some years and Irish Republicianism is still an issue among those who identify themselves as Irish-Americans.

I don't know anything about their genes.

Alex says that war is inhumane.

War has been going on for as long as we know of. So it must be in our nature, no?

I said it was morally wrong. I also said it was against the laws of humanity. I did not say it was "inhumane." In fact, I pretty much said it is part of our nature, at least at this part of our evolution, and that's the problem.

So, do you think that makes it okay?

gotcha.

<shrug> Kind of a tricky question. I (potentially) support conflict if it's necessary for the nation's interests.

//realist.

You should re-read my posts and see that I've said basically the same thing.

I wouldn't say that. War is caused by a few, so I would say that it is our nature to listen to a few. History is full of long periods of peace, and we are just going through a rough patch right now.

Yes, but the Tories and Loyalists (up to 40% of the colonial population at the start of the war) were "Americans" and aligned themselves with the despotic rule of England and fought against their fellow countrymen. I agree the schematics are not entirely the same as the situation in Libya, and certainly different from the Civil War that occurred a hundred years later, but there were still a lot of elements of civil war leading up to and at the onset of the American Revolution.

My point is, what would have happened if the rest of the world had just shrugged their shoulders and said, "Let's see how this plays out?" This is why I get very angry when people in this country put down the French and call them sissies. I guess we've forgotten that without them, we never would have won the war, and the world would be a very different place right now.

But I am inclined to agree with Miss D. I think it should be the Arab World that intervenes--not the US. I think it's time for the United States to stop playing international policeman. The only problem is, if we stand back and do nothing, then the rest of the world cries and points their finger at us after atrocities occur, somehow making it our fault. (Rwanda, anyone?) We've gotten ourselves into quite a quagmire.

Alread FB status are being posted with fingers being pointed at Obama for not taking action fast enough.

Cant win them all.

We are supplying weapons now. No good will come from this.

That's an interesting point of view...never really thought of it that way. I guess maybe violence in general is human nature? We fight on the domestic front, right?

re: Libya: Supplying weaponry has been a way for the US to be involved without troops for decades. :/ Now we're involved involved.

Actually, since recorded history began, there has always been some war or skirmish being fought, and it has only gotten worse in the last few hundred years with the advent of advanced weaponry and military science.

Before recorded history, there was still violence. Even the Native Americans, whom we often romanticize as being peaceful, fought fierce battles with each other for thousands of years. Tribes in the New Guinea highlands still live the same way they have for thousands of years, and their society is built entirely around war. Etc. etc.

War is part of our nature, indeed, but that doesn't mean we can't evolve and leave it behind as a legacy of our past. It won't happen in our lifetime, but in a thousand years? Maybe...

It's an arm race between singularity and annihilation.

Donno, Alex, if we've been warring for a hundred thousand years, what makes you think that a thousand years will make a difference?

Take a look at what social networking is doing to us. We're becoming like ants. It's hard to wage wars when there's hive mentality going on.

Encouraging uprisings in Middle Eastern countries? I don't believe in that theory. McDonald's doesn't stop war. Neither does newspapers or love of American Idol.

re: testing: Logically, you'd think that using a warhead is a lot more expensive since it blows up shit. :dunno:
