How old are you? I bet you are still living at home and when your parents tell you to do something you rebel and want your way. Sorry for you. This America was founded on the minds of great men, some who became presidents. All realized the whole is more important than an individual and no one person could make laws alone. Obama, and you too, can think what you want but Obama has a responsibility to uphold the laws and if he choose not to then he is unfit to serve.
Oh Really!!!!! Did Obama put himself on the Suprem Court?? They are the only one who can rule on the unconstitutionality of a law. Until they do Obama MUST defend it! But, I am guessing, an as whole like you knew that.
How exactly, does the institution of gay marraige affect anyone other than the persons getting married? What threat to you and your lifestyle inherent in gay marraige?
and he can pass/repeal federal law
Once again, you show your short-sight! Go back to the OP! This is about the defending of the law. You want to make it about gay marriage and muddy the issue but I won't allow you to! Obama MUST defend ALL laws or else he is unfit to serve, and I would say that about any president. And for you to think this is distorted shows how crazy you are! get a clue!!!
What if Congress or the Supreme Court says/rules that a law is unconstitutional? Should Obama STILL defend that law or agree with Congress/Supreme Court?
If the SC says it is unconstitutional then of course not. I think what Rolling (I hope) was saying was that obama is trying to do the SC's job. It is afterall the SC that has the final say in the constitutionality of a law.
Obama can give his opinion AND enforce the law.Okay, for clarification, here's Law A. Obama does not agree with Law A personally. Law A is causing a lot of controversy.
If a reporter asks him "What do you think of Law A?"
Should Obama pretend to agree with it because he has to "defend all laws"?
Or give his opinion?
Or say nothing at all? Just kinda stand there in silence? "No comment, sir."
Or beat around the bush giving a nice little BS answer that doesn't mean anything?
Or what?
Obama can give his opinion AND enforce the law.
He can say, "I don't like Law A but until and if it's either repealed or the court declares it unconstitutional, I'm compelled by the Constitution and my oath of office to enforce it."
On the other hand, if the court declares unconstitutional a law that the President likes, then he can still state his opinion but he must obey the decision.
So he CAN state his opinion? But he has to say it along the terms of "Yea I don't like it." not as "I think it is unconstitutional?" because the latter makes it sound like he is RULING it unconstitutional?
Yeah pretty much.....IMO. Being a leader requires him to be more careful with his language.
Ah... I see. So it's more of an argument about his choice of words rather than him "acting like SC".
Seems like it's always about the choice of words... sigh..
Good thing I am not famous. My words would be all over the headlines.

He can say his personal opinion which is not the same as giving a legal opinion. Only the court can pass down a legal opinion. Only the court can decide on constitutionality. So he CAN state his opinion? Since Obama claims to be a Constitutional law lawyer, he should know that.
If he was, why doesn't he know how to follow the law?Interesting wording. You don't think he was a constitutional law lawyer/professor?

How is he not following the law?![]()
