My 3rd grader, soon to be 9, is starting to question if Santa is real.

Should I go and tell her the truth, or do I let her figure it out? She will be CRUSHED either way. :(

Oh, the woes of being a parent. :aw:

Wirelessly posted

You can tell him the history of ST.Nick and the spirit of giving is real and magical

There is a book that deal with this but I forgotten the name

What do you feel comfortable with the most?

I did ask my mom those questions but let me figure it out. She said it was because at the time, I probably wasnt ready for the truth and wanted me to figure it out when I was ready. I thank her for that.

However, it was unfortunate for my younger brother because once I figured it out, I tormeted him with the truth. He is 4 years younger than me. Poor thing.

I didn't even think about the other one! She probably WOULD tell her little sister.

*groan*

Santa Claus was real. His name was Saint Nicholas. His spirit lives on in all of the children's hearts to this day. The commercialized Santa Claus all children have come to know is somewhat sad because it gives them the wrong idea of who Saint Nicholas was. It is still based on him though, but the commercialization overshadows his legacy.

Oh well.

I say let her figure it out on her own. If she asks you then tell her to solve the mystery. Think 'Nancy Drew'.

Being the baby with 2 older brothers, I found out from them by the time I was 4 that Santa Claus at home was just my parents. My son figured it out by the time he was4 and did not tell his sister, who is older. She found out at age 9 from a friend.

I never believed in santa clause. My family weren't big into it but they were big into Christmas. I still got excited.

I was told when I was 12

I pretty well figured it out on my own when I was 9. But I never really threw any fits about it nor was I really let down, I just learned it was a children's fable with some good morals behind it and moved on.

Oh wait maybe I was scarred for life...

I think you should tell your child the truth, but you know your child better than us. Since your child asking questions it would be the best time to be honest. Good luck!!
