How many of you have the typical 5 day a week "9 to 5" jobs?

I do and sometimes it is a pain in the ass like, for example, tonight, I want to stay up late because I am in the mood to but know I need to get myself in bed for my "9 to 5 " (it is really an 8 to 4 job) so I wont be non-functional. Do you ever feel that way sometimes...likle having that you can make your own hours? Or do you like having a very rigid schedule?

I work from 4:30pm-11:30pm generally at a gas station. I like it for a few reasons: sleeping in however late I wish, being able to deal with my insomnia issue better, traffic isn't as overwhelming as the day... but the price I pay is I get no, absolutely no breaks the entire shift. How do they get away with that? I'm the only one working on that shift so no one can relieve me from my work and I'm considered part-time if I'm less than 30 hrs a week, which I'm generally working 22-27 hrs. My shifts can change at anytime and its beyond annoying!

To have a job where I choose my hours would be wonderful.

Eh, I'd prefer to have a regular 9-5 job than being in grad school. With a regular job, you punch out at 5 and all the stress melts away (usually). Weekends are holy days of rest and relaxation and you look forward to them. You don't feel guilty at all if you spend the entire weekend just loafing around watching TV or reading a book for pleasure.

For me, the stress of schoolwork and deadlines is always on my shoulders, and weekends just mean more time to work on them. I will be really happy to finish up with this part of my life and move on in 6-7 months.

My work schedule constantly changes. Last semester, I worked mostly early morning hours. This semester, I work afternoons and late evenings. Sometimes I work mornings and evenings. Add to that miscellaneous freelance work at all times day and nigh, including weekends.

Hubby sometimes works six days a week, early morning until late at night but he can occasionally take a week day off.

Neither of us works a 9-5, M-F work schedule.

I literally have 9-5 Mon-Fri... I do have a feeling that they'll cut down my hours. Long story and I'd prefer not to reveal it on here, maybe in PM only...

i'm the 10-6. flexible.

Hubby and I never have two days in the row with the same schedule, and we never have two days in the row where we go to the exact same places. Even when I go to the same college, I go to completely different areas of the campus from different entrances. I have to really think each day, "Where and when do I go to work today?"

It's also hard to plan family meals and activities.

So lucky. I'd rather have the luxury of going to school just for that reason. But yeah, anything like reading or TV or goofing off is harder to plan around because you know you're supposed to be studying.

I'd rather make my own hours or a very late schedule. 10-6 would be ideal. My work requires a maximum start time of 9am plus 45-1hour of lovely traffic with idiotic drivers. I see the benefits of waking up early, but I just can't wake up that early and call myself functional. Co-workers know I'm a bit grumpy in the morning .

I used to have that. Sometimes it'd be 7am to 3pm. Do I miss the 9-5 job now? No.

My shifts are flexible and I'm okay with it.

I had a 9-6 job over the summer for an internship.

I didn't really like the rigidity that much compared to college when you can work at what hours you want as long as you get tasks done. My employer was fairly laid back though about people taking breaks and stuff as long as they got their deliverables finished, so I didn't feel too boxed in.

Being in the office all day felt a bit monotonous at first, but I was able to get used to it over time.

I work from 8-5:30. 9 hours a day = every other Friday off. I LOVE MY JOB.

When I was working it was from 7am--3:30pm, which was not bad because I beat the traffic but the schedule was for rotating off days (i.e. SAT/SUN---SUN/MON..TUE/WED
THUR/FRI--FRI/SAT) which change every five weeks.

I mostly work from 6-2pm, 7-3pm or 8-4pm. It really sucked since hubby was always working from 2pm-2am. We almost never saw each other. Now I am not "working", but I am kept running from 5:30am to midnight with everything. Hubby work from 6am to 5pm.

I work 25 hours a week, mostly morning shifts out by 1pm or 2pm depending on the days.

I woke 10 hrs/wk as a nanny to my niece and nephew. During the school year, it's mostly after school care. During the summer, it can be your typical day. But, not 9-5; but more like 7a-5p. It all depends on my sister's work schedule.

I like the flexibility of it.
