My brother in law has grand mal seizures, sometimes one right after the other.

He had 17 in one day :(

No one has been able to figure out what triggers them, but its suspected stress plays a factor in it or too little sleep.

My deaf friend has seizures as well. She still is taking medications to treat seizures. She got automobile accidents approximately 10 times. Two or three years ago, she was driving her brand new jeep, she was passing out, her jeep got rolling over and that she wasn't hurt except bruises. (Her jeep's airbag did not deploy during a crash.) She woke up in a few minutes later.. and she walked out.) She was very lucky to be alive. (She'd have killed..) Her jeep was totally damaged, unfortunately. She's still driving since her accident.

Awww your doctor is really sweet...I like that! Hugs to you!

The sad part is he could get into trouble for being that nice. In today's world being nice to those you have business dealings with is called "Unprofessional." (When I was a kid it was called caring.)

I'm glad your doctor is not a scaredy cat and is more concerned about you than petty attitudes.

In UK, people with fits/sezuires are banned from driving until they are fit free for least a year. My good friend had just been diagnosed with eplipesy, he had been banned from driving and banned from his Skippering job for 10 years! He had hitted all time low... he loved his job. I will be seeing him in few days and find out more.

I don't dare ask my doctor if I should be driving. There's no way I could go to work if I didn't have personal transportation. :/

You should not be driving at all if you are having seizures. I think doctors have to report to the police when a patient has health issues that can impair their driving. I hope you are feel better. You have a real nice Dr. to stay with like that, it was really kind of him.

Deafbajagal, mind if I ask ya something?? Ya dont have to reply to this.. I wonder, have ya had some bad shakes and some tingling in your legs and arms and have some gone limp for a few mins and then back to normal?? I am a bit worried but think it might just be a simple case of the epliepsy issue and etc...

My best wishes to you, and I hope you are able to figure out what these seizures are being caused by soon. I'm glad you have found a damn good doctor that cares. Even around here our small town doctors don't even go that far. They just lecture us on taking better care of ourselves and then move on to the next patient.

I know they want to care in some cases, but for most cases they can't and if they were to get deeply involved they would be a nervous wreck all the time because they would be overly stressed and worried over all of their patients when they are stressed enough just from the patient load and protecting themselves from frivolous lawsuits.

It is very rare to have a doctor wanting to be your friend and put his professional medical aside so that you won't feel alone. I am glad that he understand your situation. I am wondering maybe he had someone who goes through the seizures or epilepsy problems before and he really want to help. This is good that he sits with you. :thumb: :grouphug:

YEP! I've also had numbness in my hands and feet, but not all at the same time...one day it will be my right hand, the next day it may be my left. Very annoying.

Other really important signs...losing control of your bladder, blacking out, and feeling very tired after it happens...sometimes with a bad headache.

There are many different kinds of seizures, so if you're not sure, always check with a doctor to rule it out. Best of luck to you.

Well I do know of eplisey seizures as I had them when I was a little boy.. so they have not bothered me since then but I do know it will eventually return one day...

The conditions ya describe are a bit eerily familiar to me,.. we better chat in PM and I want to tell ya something that ya might need to be prepared for in case.....

Some people with severe epilepsy isn't allowed to drive. Meds doesn't help my close friend any shit that often. I personally don't know anyone in life that has severe epilepsy for more than 25 years and is still alive. Have to depend on details of right nutrition in order to reduce his one too many episodes. Avoid Asiago cheese and oftenly eat organic food. That sucks. Having thoughts about Neurological brain surgery but it is too complicated and dangerous choice for him to make. =/

My cousin has severe epilepsy and the docs told her parents not to expect her to see past 18 years old. Today at 34 years old, living in sheltered accommodation, she is doing ok otherwise have learning difficulties.

Good to know, overthepond, that she fared well, considering... My sister has it as well, and she functions fine. I don't know if I have it yet...just that all of the sudden, I'm having these "episodes." Eeek.
