Oh, some produce radically different effects but some don't. Nexium/Prisolec is one of them from what I read - no signficant difference enough to go for Nexium. The other example is Focalin and Ritalin. There's no evidence it's superior or less harsh than Ritalin.

It is said that racemetic mixture tend to produce more side effects than pure enantiomers and it may be true with some drugs but not all.
 
Yikes! I take two Zantac (ranitidine) per day plus one omeprazole per day for GERD but all this controversy about the drugs is giving me an upset stomach. :(

Couple of my GI doctors, of course, they are under Medicaid sponsored say that Nexium and Prilosec are work in different way from patient to patient.

You are not listen to me or some patients who said Nexium is more effective to them so your research is just disputed about how both of drugs are work in different effectiveness and side effects so results are varies by patients.

My point really is that people just demand the latest and newest drugs when studies show no signficant differences for many drugs compared to old drugs.

First, try old drugs. If they don't produce effects, then switch to new drugs. That's the best thing you can do for yourself economically and also save us tax money!

I don't have upset stomach while taking Nexium but Prilosec did cause upset stomach and feel like having IBS.

I have only one side effect when taking Nexium is diarrhea but disappeared in after one month.

Listen to patients because they have different say about effectiveness and side effect while taking drugs.

Side effects vary from patient to patient, no one is questioning that. I am saying that overall, it's not significant. It may loom as "huge" to you INDIVIDUALLY but that's understandable.

and EFFECTIVENESS (response) is different on between Nexium and Prilosec.

It is varies by patients so you have to find out if you have heartburn in future.
 
Man....who to believe. :hmm: The guy that has taken and experienced both.....or .....the guy that wrote Prisolec....twice

Oh wait....I have taken both too and much preferred Nexium....glad I don't have to make that call.

I took it a short time while I was taking another med that is very hard on the stomach.

I've been in ER for gastritis. I've taken both of them... the effective is dependent on dose. I've doubled the recommended dose by my doctor's advice for Prilosec and it works. Nexium may work better for some patients but for most patients, no. I mean, seriosly, you'll not know if I painted Prilosec purple.

But let me tell you something though - it is NOT good to be on them for a long term use. It's been linked to more health problems, notably higher fractures and more deadly stomach infections.

Also the bad news is that taking PPI will cause rebound effect in 44% of patients while those who didn't had no rebound effects. That's why I am very conservative with PPI's.

"The observation that more than 40 percent of healthy volunteers, who have never been bothered by heartburn, acid regurgitation or dyspepsia, develop such symptoms in the weeks after cessation of PPIs is remarkable and has potentially important clinical and economic implications," said Christina Reimer, MD, of Copenhagen University and lead author of the study. "This study indicates unrecognized aspects of PPI withdrawal and is a very strong indication of a clinically significant acid rebound phenomenon that needs to be investigated in proper patient populations."

Bad rebound effects even in healthy patients who don't have acid problems!

I have chronic gastritis as well and changing the diet does help, especially largely reduce of greasy food and take Antacid if needed.
