Like I said - gripe goes up, not down. And the entire thing is recorded in Rolling Stone article.

You don't think he should be in trouble for that?

He isn't the one who said it. His aide was.

Should you be charged for a crime your employee does? Just because you are the boss?

Griping is not a crime so that isn't really a comparison.

Officers cannot be demoted.

They can be reassigned, asked to retire, asked to resign, or put at the bottom of the promotion list.
 
"Griping" within the inner circles of the military is common but it's kept within the ward room (where officers meet together). Where the general crossed the line is letting those "gripes" and observations go public.

He should have kept his personal observations to himself until he retired. Then he could write his memoirs and make a profit from his criticisms. (semi-joking)
 
I bet Obama will have a private meeting with him and forgive him. At least, I hope so.

They are mulling it over now in asking him to resign. When they do that it doesn't matter either way, he's going to leave.

And when that does hope I hope he gets some book offers for his memoirs. It should be an interesting read. Could a book be written (ghost writers) that fast before the November election.
