recently now 8 months old, and almost 15,000kms and due to for next service which I gotta do before my business trip trip to Sydney in two weeks.
 
95 F250 HD have 80,600 miles.

It get 13 mpg in city and 16 in hwy but it will improve when I replaced cat.

It's only 9k miles. Don't be silly. Our 2006 ford focus is 115k miles and it's only four years old.

Plugged cat? I guess it was caused by misfire or leaky fuel pressure regulator.
I remember I diagnosed a Ford F250 with a 7.4L (460 CID) fuel injection for no start, able not traced the problem after checked compression/ leakdown tests.
The engine was about to be running but sputter then die. Prior to diagnositic, there was a new fuel pressure regulator, spark plugs and wires that installed by a customer. No codes. Then I suspected restricted cat but I went to check the backpressure in exhaust system with my vacuum gauge, saw the reading of my vac gauge went rose over 10 psi while cranking the engine, obviously bad plugged cat. I removed O2 sensor from the exhaust pipe to see if engine is running but still sputter and little run longer then I decided to crack the cat down to see if the engine started, and ran ok.
I rod out the cat and put it back and drove for road test to see if engine is ok before sublet to the muffler shop to replaced a new cat. Fixed.
The backpressure test on all cats should be around 1 psi or less. Max is 2psi
backpressure on WOT.

Oh yeah, I remembered that problem from class. Also, you feels lost power that cause plugged cat.

Yes, but it is the book requirement to have regular check up on my new car, it is different to what you do up there... will have to book in on thursday next week..

What's service? Engine oil? Brake fluid? Transmission fluid? :giggle:

Well, My area is more maintenance than your area due cold weather and heavy traffic.

yup. always follow the manufacturer's recommendation. If you wish to do it earlier - that's fine. If you wish to do it LATER than recommended specification - then that's bad.

what you doing is not different from here. Everybody else in the world is doing same thing but the only difference is - some cars lasts shorter and some lasts much longer. The one that lasts shorter is because he ignores the manufacturer's recommendation.

My bike - the manufacturer's recommendation is changing oil every 6,000 miles but I change it every 3,000 miles.

correct, I floored gas pedal the engine wont pick up speed, feels like plugged fuel filter then back off the gas pedal, engine would run fine. No power on acceleration, what to do? Verify DTC(s),check fuel pressure if ok then check backpressure in exhaust system. If both ok then verify engine vacuum. If abnormal vacuum in the engine, do compression test. Many hearing mechanics
are skipping the compression test. Why? They listen the engine running. Wrong they have to check compression test before they pinpoint the problem for certain. Lazy hearing mechanics.

Wow, Maybe hearing mechanics dont deal with remove all spark plugs then compression test then put the all spark plugs back with hand tight then torque wrench to tight.

The compression test for bad gasket or piston ring or engine's cylinder cause loss power, I believe. I am saving the money to buy the compression test and backpressure. I already own the fuel pressure with fuel volume, engine vacuum, DMM, iPod touch (Scan tool for real-time with record, DTC, and freeze frame data) and test light for 12-25volts.

valves too. You can use engine vacuum gauge as backpressure test ( make sure your gauge have mercury and pressure as 2 in one gauge) to test cat for restrict. You can remove O2 sensor (upstream), install an adapter (can be purchase from hardware store or fabbed old O2 sensor) to attach vacuum hose to a nipple in threaded hole of the adapter and a gauge. Dont use long lenghten vacuum hose that might give you false backpressure reading. About 2 feet long. I can think of a braided SS brake line instead of rubber hose that can be burnt or melt when laid on the hot exhaust manifold or pipe. Braided SS brake line wont hurt. I ve'nt try it.
 
Just called in and reserved my car for its 15,000km check up Thursday morning $240 fee.

Yea, frigid weather and driving around in smaller cities..which means my car will need more servicing like replacing coolant to a 30/70 blend, change oil more often, etc.
