McAfee Update Shutting Down XP.

That is why I dislike McAfee security program. I'm glad that I use Norton Anti-virus and Windows Security Essentials programs.
Incident with Windows XP may be impact up on end-users' trust on the McAfee company (like Toyota).

McAfee? Bloated anti-virus software. I knew not to trust McAfee in the first place NOT to mention it came preinstalled.

Windows Security Essentials+Spybot Search & Destroy= WIN

I have not used it since it fucked up my old PC about 15 years ago.

I'm using McAfee and Windows XP, my computer is still fine. ;)

I really hate McAffee. They're bloatwares and performance hog. That's why I switched over to better Antivirus like Avira. I use free version and didn't have much problems with it except my kid downloaded file that had trojan in it :ugh:

Comcast in Olathe, KS does "force" computer to download and install McAffee. This pissed me off cuz my friend tried to use the pc for first time after he moved in and it installed McAffee while it already had antivirus installed by me. How it work, when you hook up to Comcast cable modem. Run the browser and it'll pop up window requesting User's name and password as provided by Comcast on the User's brouchers. After logged into Comcast's site and it'll pop up another message that must install McAffee as free antivirus provided by Comcast. There are no choice to bypass it but go thru it. It installs McAffee then after reboot, McAffee been setup then you log back in Comcast's website and it'll verify you already have McAffee installed then it'll allow you to use their service (finally got into website). If you happed to delete McAffee and use other Antivirus. Comcast Cable modem would not bother you until you actually reformatted or moved to new location. It'll check if your pc or laptop have McAfee. That's something I really hates it so much.

My RoadRunner cable modem don't do this at all.

It seem Comcast "force fed" users. This should be illegal!!

Hard to believe. My parents use Comcast for their home and their business (two locations) and they have no problem without anti-virus.

No updates by automatically?
Nope. I never have automatic updates. It may sound handy, but I prefer to do things manually.

That way, it gives me time to review the updates before I actually do it.

I had that problem with a Microsoft Update years ago. There was an update that Microsoft had that was causing Windows ME to crash more frequently. I had my computer on automatic at that time and that update was installed. I removed that update and it fixed my Windows ME crash problem.

Yes, I know that Windows ME was one of the worst operating systems... but it was something that came with the computer when I got it. Now, it's running on Windows XP. :)

I don't like Mcfacee is not good. Because I don't believe it..
