Move Over Laws

Yes it did happen to me once, when the cop walked around on the left. i like it better. Of course its safer for the cops too.

it's safer for everyone to drive slow on the street too.

I have noticed almost trucks to move out on other lanes close to police emergency on shoulder.

I thought everyone do same thing. I always move over for officers, semi-trucks, and broke down vehicles from shoulder since I got driver permit, not just for officers only. Law need fixed. I feels sorry for people who change their tire from left side of vehicles at right shoulder at highway.

Yes, I'm aware of this.

I always slow down a bit and/or move over when passing any law enforcement or emergency vehicle.

I do see some people on the highway who don't even slow down or move at all. One of these days, they're gonna get in trouble. :nono:

South Carolina has the law but it doesn't seem to be enforced or followed.

During my recent "adventure" with my Jeep's side window being blown out, I noticed that. I pulled waaaaay over on the highway shoulder because I saw that people not only did not "move over" but some (including RV's and semi's) would actually go over the solid line into the shoulder where I was parked. I just sat in my car until first the SHEP (highway assistance truck) showed up, the later the HP showed up. Even with their marked emergency vehicle lights spinning, people did not move over. They drove so close by that the wind from their vehicles blew in even more glass on me. :cold:

I understand how your feel. Mostly people do move over in IL/IA. :)

I would say, this is stupid law. We need is COMMON SENSE, I see many drivers lack common sense. Too many stupid drivers out there, and we do not need too many laws. Just simple, use common sense law, how hard can it be?

NJ has Move Over Law since 2009 - $100-500 fines.

If cop is stop me, I ain't stop anywhere on highway, I go on safe spot. I learn that from my bro-in-law who is cop. He would appreciate if anyone find safe spot and less trouble.

In Kansas, it's $150 fine plus court cost. I've moved over many time long before Move Over Law was passed. Stupid people think that they can whiz past by while cop parked on side of highway with pulled over car. Also same law protects people who pulled over because car breaks down or flat tire, people must move over. Those who had flat tire now cannot change tire. They must wait for Roadside Assistance to come and change tire. I still prefer change tire myself. I can change tire less than 5 minutes :giggle:

I remembered motorcycle pulled you out and you just parked at highway's shoulder in Texas when I was here.

It's a case of rubber necking, stupid people look at cops on the side of the road and go, "oh lookie there, it's a cop....oh shit!" CRASH! Because they're not watching where they are driving.

Too many idiots with a driver's license when they have no business owning one.

2 common causes of those accidents were DUI and Drowsy Driving :mad2: and yea Driving While Distracted (like cellphone).
