No Saturday Mail?

I thought the "junk" mail subsidized the first class mail costs? If junk mail is eliminated, the cost of stamps will increase, right?

Yes, but I am saying the $10-12 Billion saved buy slashing jobs and fuel will more than offset the loss of revenue

Perhaps but then again stamp prices continue to rise over the years to help cover the costs. Did it help?

I don't see the purpose of getting them in saturday... most people get their mail in the late afternoon and banks are more likely to be closed and closed on sunday.
Our bank has a branch inside Walmart that is open until 6 p.m. on Saturday.

If there is no mail on Saturday or Sunday, then I might get my check on Monday (for example). I don't get my mail until I get home from work Monday afternoon, so I can't cash my check until Tuesday afternoon after work. If there is a Federal holiday on Monday, then there is even more delay.

Just look at how much later the mail is delivered on the day after a holiday where the post office was closed. It's a nightmare and our carrier is bogged down big time.
I remember those days but now things have change. Less mails now and less time, I get them done by 3 or 4 pm unlikely before I got it done by 8 or 9 pm.

True. If they closed Saturdays then on Monday will be long day and mails will be deliver later than usual.
Yes, I notice after 3-day Federal holiday weekends, the mail the next day is a big pile, and delivered later in the day.

yes, but like I wrote, people learn to adapt, so it is like getting paid every Tuesday.

Except I don't get paid every week. Hubby and I never know which days our checks will appear.

Could be a hand in the cookie jar.......lol

I am not one that uses mail much though. Except for a 3 dozen or so certified letters I send out every year......I bet it's been 3-4 years since I sent First Class mail

changes because people are emailing more?
I don't think so. Junk mails are the one hurting us more cuz we get them less now. Think about who sell junk mails? Businesses. Many business are out of business. I usually get alot of ads from stores alike Gottschalk and others. But they are out of business now. Also I notice not many credit companies send out in mails much anymore. There is other things alot of people lost homes and jobs. Many vacant around here but slowly they are coming back with new people move in. Plus we spend more $$$ on gas than 3 years ago.

I'll let you figure out which group to which I belong. :P

The only way I can get paid by my clients is by the checks that they mail me. Several of them use out-of-state accounting services who mail out the checks on certain dates.

lol you don't belong to any of those groups but your clients probably do

We get 5 magazines a month and then there's the catalogs. MIL is an old-fashioned person. I like my print version of Weight Watcher's. My mother get's the other 4. Any other's I want, I get at the library.

Absolutely!

We also share them with each other, to save paper and money.

I clip out and save important articles.

Much better to stock bathroom "libraries" with magazine reading material.

 ya'all. I'm not surprised that ya'all missed a hint of sarcasm there. It was in reference to TXGolfer's previous comment about people still doing check via mail.

I have tons of magazines here. I subscribe to quite a handful. I love it! I hate reading it online but I'm happy that I do not have to collect/scan the articles because it is available online.

You don't send any cards for birthdays, Christmas, thank you, congratulations, etc.? :(

you know - I read this article again and it confirmed my suspicion. as typical like most government agencies - USPS mismanaged its funds. You do not see this kind of thing in private businesses like Fedex.

I have a feeling that a portion of its current workers are "useless" and lazy. oh well.

Well, some private companies still have own retirement benefits, such as Goodyear and att like my grandparent is used to work at both of place so my grandma still receive a retirement benefits, such as health insurance, monthly pension and other offers from att after retired in late 1980's, for my grandpa worked at Goodyear until his death of cancer in 1995 so my grandma still receive retirement benefits because of spouse, including health insurance and monthly pension so my grandma has 3 different of health insurances right now.

Now, I learned about many private companies don't offers retirement benefit or just little to baby boomers and younger generation of Americans anymore because their money will drive out since older generation of Americans like especially pre-baby boomers still receive a retirement benefits.

I got it, but I just wanted to say it anyway :)

It does and it will.

There is always hope. If enough people get together and boycott chronic junk mailers we could get them to go away.....So what if it brings down the cost of mail a little. It's horrible for the environment and it's a nuisance
