I just got the rules today for the deaf golf tourney this summer. To qualify you must have a 55db loss or greater in your best ear. I qualify so no problem. But the rules also say no hearing aid or CIs may be worn during play.

Rules are rules so I will start practicing without my aid. It will be an adjustment. I don't really have an opinion on the rule but I am curious to hear the input of others.

Most deaf tournies....that is the standard rule, not the exception. Are you thinking of doin the deaf golf tourney in Vegas during DeafWorld Expo? Cuz Im really considering doing that one, it sounds like fun....Im just being cautious cuz the 115 degree days in July, so we'll see

I don't see what the problem is with not wearing hearing aids or CIs.

That's why it's called a deaf tournament. It involves deaf people. If deaf people had the benefit of being "hearing" or being able to hear some, then that would defeat the concept of "deaf tournament".

So, it's fair to say that no hearing aids or CIs can be worn during the tournament.

Not that it really applies in Golf, but it is created to avoid any possible unfair advantage in sporting events where audio cues are present.

I agree.

Wouldn't being deaf be a big advantage in sports such as golf?

One thing that golfers hate are hecklers.

Take a swing and right before you hit the ball, someone yells... "Hey!" Boy, your swing got messed up! Damn!

Oh, wait... you're deaf. You didn't hear him! No problem. You made your swing perfect without any interruptions! :thumb:

Well it is difficult for me to play because I like to hear the contact......after years of playing hearing that it is kind of freaky to see contact but hear nothing. Also , because I hear nothing without the HA the tinnitus will be more of a distraction. The little bit of sound that I hear tends to mask the tinnitus a bit. I will adapt though. The toughest issue is going to be communicating with my caddie since neither of us sign. We will adapt to that too.

I am not complaining though, I had not given it any thought until I saw the rule. Just curious to hear the thought of others. :ty:

Haha, I have found out that I need much more than just silence to help me get a perfect swing. Don't know if I'll ever master that part in this life.

I need to look at the website. I knew there was a poker tourney. Didn't know about the golf tourney. If spots are still open I will plan to play.

As far as heat everybody is different. I have played in Vegas and Phoenix in the 110's and it didn't bother me as long as I covered the back of my neck. Houston at 98 kills me. That humidity and those trees blocking the wind make it much worse imo.

Are you for real? I can imagine golfing = having the same swing without hearing the results because you swing prior to hearing the result?

People miss the ball sometimes. ;) I imagine a deaf golf player and a hearing golf player react differently internally.

Like I said I am not complaining. HA stays home starting tomorrow.
