I was reading along the google articles and youtube videos and came to an thought - what do you see and think would happen to the future of computers?

What's your expectatancy in them by 2020?

For myself, I see that pyshical keyboard would be the thing of the past, and computers going touchscreen.

What about you?

Discuss away!

Awesome video. I really like that phone the guy was using.

I am not a fan of touch screen stuff, mainly because I don't like fingerprints on the screen. But, if the screen was virtual, then that may be cool. :)

I imagine the future computer to be controlled by thought. Just imagine, sitting there at work, staring at a virtual screen like a zombie...

I also remember reading recently that Intel wanted to develop chips that can be implemented into our body. I wonder if it would come with DRM? :) Your body belongs to the corporation. :)

It will likely to happen...100 years from now.

try 20. after all..... computers (home pc) & Microsoft were born in 1980's. Look how far we came in a very short time.

in future - I imagine they would have already invent fingerprint-free glasses  but I'm not a huge fan of touchscreen. I cannot imagine doing that all day. I prefer - maximum productivity, minimal activity (physically)

that's why I sold Wii after just a couple months. I ain't interested in moving my arms around all day

I think

I think that we are headed for one of those exponential leaps into futuristic thinking. As of today we are still on a fairly predictable course of improvements made on ancient models of advanced skill activities. The computer as we use it is still based on original skills based on the clay tablet and a writing stick. Just as the car is still based on the first chariots and wagons. At present a human from 2 thousand years ago after intitial shock and awe would be able to jam around better and better fairly quickly. While things are way advanced they are straight line advances on old themes. I predict that we are coming into a time when some of these old themes will be left behind like the old dead shell of metamorphasis. Any ideas?

good post! as we continue to aggressively progress..... I pray that the humanity does not forget its root. That means - knowing how to do things the old fashioned way in case the technology failed..... how to write with pencil, how to hunt for food, etc.

Did you know that the video I just displayed in this thread, Microsoft is aiming to be like that by 2019 which most of us will be around to witness it and did you ever notice some of the internet gaints are working on it as well. Google for starters... and did you ever know micrsoft provides free storage up to 25 GB via the internet cloud? They are Microsoft Skydrive. See, the internet is all over us now. So will the computers.

While techies like to tote about that touch-screen will be the future, hardcore programmers and software engineers like to point out that physical keyboard will always be around due to the fact that we can type faster (WPM) and more accurately than a touch-screen.

In 1980s and 1990s new technology in computer appeared every six months.

Now, it has happened every three months.

We will see roll-up laptop or pager in 5 to 10 years or less.

I love those new technology.

I remember seeing those videos a while back.

Won't be surprised if it comes to that point... hopefully within our lifetime. :)

Interesting, hmmmm. A long time ago I read an article by some official in the armed forces, and he includes the ability to draw pictures and tree climbing as some of the prerequisites for survival. I don't think he included compassion for other living things, though. :(

Wow, damn! That's something awesome - I recall, that Japan is currently in the make of the new TV that you can fold, twist or whatever which wont break - I believe they would build similar to the laptop...

There is so much that we would expect by the time we reach 2020.

Wirelessly posted (Sidekick LX: Mozilla/5.0 (Danger hiptop 4.6; U; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050920)

If they go blend in steampunk styles, sure!! I would love to. But, I'm not fan of futuristic things, objects, or technical stuff... also, I prefer something is easy to use it... newest computers tend to be so complex to use them. Bah.

Jiro, you're right. I think it is really need and always important to teach basic tools and basic books. I begin to wonder what if books are getting fewer and fewer in someday? I notice most people tend to use computers, not books... mmmm...

Well, what happens to these books are becoming electronic (and Virtual books) thats how they are moving over to these since a lot of people have computers in their household, these books can be viewed on their monitors. in today's technology and near future I must admit, are helping very well to communicate with deaf people. Have you guys noticed that?

I predict we will continue to follow a kind of dual course in a mainstream way. Futuristic tools and abilities in some combination of useful activities that while simple and outmoded are the practical abilities that fill a day with activities that try, that exercise our bodies and minds and put us in daily contact with real life, real spirituality, the real world. It will be a world based not as much on all of us working in for profit jobs but will be much like the more tribal efforts of the past. There will be no need for everyone to grow their own food crops but many will be doing just that. As future technology make survival easier and easier everyone still needs useful acitivities to stay balanced and practical and happily real in God's universe.

WALL-E will save us.

overpopulation

I think that our true biggest problem is not the overuse of technology, but the enormous population that will be using it. Just in my short life I have seen the number of human beings really jump. If there is one thing people do well it is impact whatever area they are. We pretty much wreak havoc. In my thoughts about the future and our world I see us having to change how we do things. I just cannot be in denial about this.
