Adult stem cell is happening right now to cure hearing loss!

Is it so easy that you would make your deaf child use lipreading? He advocates that everyday....scary!

I dont remember learning how to lipread and if it was hard or not. My only issue with lipreading is in large groups which is why I advocate for the use of ASL in the classroom settings or at meetings.

I don't understand speech without lipreading...

I wouldn't recommend lipreading in a group setting. :S Was with a bunch of hearies last night. Good thing they didn't mind me surfing the Internet on the BB instead of being part of the conversation.

In my family, I would had been given heck for it.

Quit whining whippersnapper! They did not even have BB when I was a kid. :mad2:

I had to read books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hearing- Not just unaided, but at probably, 25 db, as apposed to the 60 db it is given in the booth.

60 db loss- SOME people with that level of hearing will get that score. Miss Kat would not have. She would have gotten 0.

CI- I know of CI users that score 100% on their testing. I know some who still get 0. Where on earth do you get the figure that you are quoting???

Normal converstational speech is 55db HL. A moderate hearing loss, when adequately amplified will often score in the 90-95% range of monosyllabic speech and 100% sentence. Ive seen a few with CI who score 100% sentence. Ive also seen a few with severe loss score 100% as well. I know a guy with 80db HL(flat audiogram) who scored 100%, he hears better than most of his deaf friends with CI. Everyone is different, some do well, some don't. What im looking is for average. Some are above average, some are below average.

You are saying that CI users get 100% scores on their testing?

It's rare to score 100% even on a sentence test with CI, but ive seen a few who got that. On a harder test, such as monosyllabic word, they may score around 70% which is considered exceptional for a CI, but average for a 70db HL.

Just because you say it, doesn't make it true. I know many people with CI's who score 100% on sentence tests. My own child scored nearly 90% on single word tests at only 9 months post. She would score even higher now, and she is far from a "star" CI users.

I think your "facts" are outdated and untrue.

And yes, I know normal speech is about 55 db, but what are they testing you at in the booth? Miss Kat's test was at 45 db. And I said that a hearing person could get 100% at a whisper.

Ok that's IT , I want to be HEARING!

Wait a min..I get 100% with ASL.

What does she score on an open set monosyllabic word test, such as CNC or NU6?

A whisper is 30db HL, so a person would need to hear at 0db to score this high. I will never hear 100% of a whisper even with stem cells. Looking at my previous audiograms, I had speech awareness at 45db HL and understood some speech words at 60db HL aided. Ill of course have new audiograms and speech tests after I get stem cells. I believe I should be able to score 100% sentence aided if my hearing gets to 70db or better. That's about a 35-40db improvement from what I have. I bet you that we will see alot of the pioneers getting this much improvement and those that started with better hearing than me will hear very close to a normally hearing person with HAs, able to score at or near 100% even in more difficult situations.

Didn't really answer my question....you just spouted off about stem cells curing you again....

Have you incurred any damage or loss to your hearing from loud noise/music? This may affect your ability to hear speech perfectly.
