Hello everyone! I have been going back to running and jogging in recent weeks and becoming addicted to it now. Anyone else like to run/jog?

My goal is to run 5 miles a day. For now, I can run a half a mile cuz of my knees hurting. I plan on buying better shoes next week so hopefully that will help.

Anyone run/job 5 miles a day? How long does it take? I hope to do it in an hour cuz that would be all the time I have to spare.

Since starting my daily walk/jog each morning on the first week of July, I have noticed that my arms and legs are getting thinner but MOST of all, my stomach is getting flatter. Whaoooo!!!

Congrats!!! i am not a fan of jogging however, I do walk a lot lately most in the summer. I have weak knees so i just take it easy on my knees and focus on walking so fast which is working for me. I only walk about 4 times a week during summer time.

I feel so great after i walk for 45 minutes. :D

I started out with walking 2 miles (40 mins) and now, I am starting to run. I used to run/jog on a daily basis and I loved it better than walking but my knees arent fully ready for a long run/jog.

You are so right..it feels GREAT!

Running is a great thing to do..enjoyable, good for you and gives you a great sense of achievement. I did long distance running in school and did a few marathons as well.
10-15 mins a mile is a comfortable pace for most people. One bit of advice..if you are running on grass cheap trainners will do but if you are going to be on concrete a lot [ ie. the road or sidewalk ] you will need good running shoes or you will start to get sore knees or ankles..usually the next day!..keep going + best of luck with it!

For years, i have never liked running. i guess i run so slowly like i often got out when i hit the ball and run to the first base obviously. LOL. Once in a while, i do run when i am in a mood but it isn't too often. I rather walk so fast instead.

Before I had my daughter, I hated running. After I had her, I gained so much weight and did nothing for a year thinking it would come off. It didnt so I knew I had to do something about it. For the first time in my life, at the age of 26 years old, I started walking not knowing if it was a good thing or not. Then, I started jogging after seeing so many skinny people jogging and then I got addicted to it. However, I stopped when I moved to DC in 1999 but just did spinning, kickboxing, and working out on the exercise machines. Then stopped altogether in 2003 when I got two full time jobs. Finally returned to exercise last year but didnt jog until this summer. I feel the same addiction growing again. Maybe I was meant to run/jog.

Thanks for the tips...I am not as young so I want to ensure that I wont hurt myself.

Oh you were in dc during 1999. i was there. lol. at that year, i was engaged to my hubby living in east capitol, southeast d.c. I realize now that i used to run at the lincoln park for about 6 years. you know where it is, near 11st and 12 st southeast where the doggies hang out there. Wow i forget about that one! I even run in charles river park, Mass too. ( i forget whats the name of park but i think it was charles river park) i lived in brighton, ma. The point is that I still never liked running. =X

So its time for you to get good sneakers that you are meant to run anyway. thats cool!

I like running/jogging but only with good music in my ears ;) I usually do twice per week a 10km running.

Good shoes is something you need in order not to hurt your knees/back, etc... it can lead to serious aches if you don't have the right shoes. Maybe there's a special sports shop near your place to help you find the right shoes (unless you know what kind of shoes you need that is...)

:D

I'm searching for new ones for 3 months already!!!! :mad2:

I likes to walk (about 2 miles round with my boyfriend) and yes, running is good for the heart. Also it'll make u feels better. Warm-up always first before jogging or running.

Walk upstair/downstair too. I lived on a upstair/downstair building.

I walked with my old friends about 4 miles from after-school, when I was young.

That would be fun to take a long walks along the beach or the boardwalk on a nice cool sunny day with a lover or friends.

Peace

Shel - since your knees are hurting.... it's probably cuz you were running on hard street/concrete ground. It is known to cause injury to feet/knees because the ground is very hard. the evolution didn't design human body for concrete ground. It is recommendable that you run on treadmill or at school track field cuz it has soft asphalt ground. Or you can run on grass/trail.

stair exercise is not usually recommendable for women of *ahem* shel's age and physique. it can causes tremendous amount of stress on knees and feet... meaning possible torn/inflamed ligament/joints.

we just aren't what we used to be before....

Stair steppers are good better than walking on the regular stairs. I like it. i only use it if i go to ymca.

Huh? I didn't recommend that to Shel90 or anyone.

I'm not trying to encourage ladies to walk upstair/downstair.

I personally talked about myself for walking upstair/downstair because I lived on a stairs building. (Not running stairs)

I shouldn't post it about upstair/downstair (rolling eyes).

glad you brought up about the stairs. so i can mention about the stair steppers. No big deal if its off topic. :)

peace.

The parts for stair stepper products allow you to do the motions without the force against your knees and joints. If one really wants to do stair steps they'll also have to find the adequate engine because there are various types out on the market! It's not easy...

hey take it easy. I'm just adding the "warning advisory caution" sticker to it because some people do stairs to exercise :)
