It seems like someone just enjoys starting something when there's nothing to be started, but I agree with people who say that it has been overanalyzed. And I think that Violet is right, just breathe and have a laugh. If you can't take any joy in life, what's the point? Political correctness is not everything.

The cartoon, by the way, was done by Steve Kelley back in 1994. I've seen his cartoons before and his political philosophy is "right of center." (hint hint)

The cartoon, as I said, contains two messages. The "irony" message here has a similar message that pro-illegal immigrants use to rebutt against those who favor enforcing illegal immigration laws in the United States by basically saying they were here (southwestern states) before the "gringos" came but totally missing the irony that it was in fact the native indians who were here first.

Obviously, if we can't say who can come here, then certainly we have open borders and consequently have no control over our country. In fact, we'd no longer have a country. And that would prove highly problematic.

All of this analysis over a cartoon. :roll:

You must be in the country legally.

Did the Pilgrims get permission before they arrived at Plymouth??? No.

You have the means to sustain yourselves economically.

The Pilgrims' food supply often run low. Thanksgiving on the Net - The Pilgrims and America's First Thanksgiving

You are not destined to be burdens on society.

As in the above link, the Native Americans shared their stored food with the Pilgrims when the food supply ran low. Squanto taught the Pilgrims how to plant crops and which plants are poisonious or not.

Be of economic and social benefit to society.

Was the white people benefical to the Native Americans after they herd them to the reservations? I think not.

Be of good character and have no criminal records.

The white men gave blankets infected with smallpox to the Native Americans. (The Straight Dope: Did whites ever give Native Americans blankets infected with smallpox?) That is a criminal activity. The white men grab the lands from the Native Americans - is that a good character? Nope.

And must contributors to the general well-being of the nation.

If the Native Amercians has a writting system and keep record of each Pilgrim, things would be very different now.

White men do violate their status.

White men had interfered with Native Amercians' politics plenty of times.

Foreign visitors who enter under false pretenses are imprisoned or deported.

And those who aid in illegal immigration will be sent to prison.

In case, you were wondering about my ethnicity... I am 100% caucasian since all of my grandparents were born in the Old World, therefore I don't have one drop of Native American blood in me.

Um, hate to break it to you but that immigration policy is all Mexico's immigration law that they follow and enforce. My wife has native blood. Her grandfather 1/2 indian. We understand the history. But that's beside the point. Mexico also has a history against indians and the taking of their lands. Indians suffered abuse and killings by Spaniards.

But what you don't get is that there are two messages being said in that cartoon. Do you know who Steve Kelley is who is the cartoonist of that cartoon? The issue is about illegal immigration and the fact that illegal aliens tried to use that very idea of "ownership" of the southwestern states stating that it was "their land" before the gringos "stole" it from them (actually they won the war and Mexico agreed with the payments..end of story...their loss) not realizing the very irony of making that statement when it was actually Native Americans who was there first...not Mexico/Spaniards, Canadians/French, nor Americans/European/British.

I have not seen the cartoon in a while. Last time, I saw it was several years ago, the city hall voted to ban landlords from renting apartments to illegals, but the city hall dropped out later due to financial conflicts.

Anyway, Prop 187 in '94 triggered the protests all over San Diego. I have had witnessed protesters at my public high school marching on the way to the City Hall. I also recall that if you are a student at any high school decide to join the protesters to oppose Prop 187, you'll wind up in the detention room for missing a class unless you get permission. Prop 187 passed, probably around 60% or so. Many CA residents were furious at Governor Gray Davis at the time 'cause he was the one who dropped the appeal before it ruled in the court. The funny thing is, during his campaign, he mentioned that he would support the appeal, and it was all over local news. That was just one of the things lead to the recall of Gov. Gray Davis. Some illegal immigrants are Indians from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras and do not speak Spanish at all.

I like the cartoon. I recall vaguely one of the cartoons from very early 90's where the student shows up in the classroom with E.T. (You know, the alien from outer space) asks his schoolteacher," Can he stay here?" A teacher turns around and makes a phone call asking for evidence like "Get me the law where it says I can teach illegals aliens" something like that.

yea like i told kon to make a new thread that i understand what kon was saying about the illegal immigration laws that i am not good at politicies. It isn't in my pov of this cartoon. I know lot of people have more than one POV of this cartoon. But Cartoon said it all in one message.

Exactly. If Kokonut wants to rant about illegal immigration laws and history, start a new thread. This was meant to provide a laugh. I guess some just take themselves so seriously that they don't have the ability to laugh.
