If you receive an IM on any IM service from someone claiming to be Kennedey Josephine from Deaf Powerball Association it is a SCAM, report this person and block them!

The screen name I had IM me on Aim was kjosephine90.

If someone IMs you or emails you out of the blue claiming to be from Deaf Lotto or anything that involves money. Do not talk to them and do not give them any personal information.

Here is the small log of what these people try to do they got my IM from here:

kjosephine90 (11:47:07 AM): are you there?
tdcandy80 (11:47:17 AM): hello
kjosephine90 (11:47:40 AM): how are you doing?
tdcandy80 (11:47:46 AM): who is this
kjosephine90 (11:48:48 AM): Am Kennedy Josephine
tdcandy80 (11:49:00 AM): yes but how do you know me
kjosephine90 (11:50:48 AM): I am Kennedey Josephine from Deaf Powerball Association, Aiken SC. I am a deaf
tdcandy80 (11:51:22 AM): You do realize I am a Mod for a Deaf website right? I know you are a scam
tdcandy80 (11:51:33 AM): Im reporting you
tdcandy80 (11:51:40 AM): have a great day

After I told them I knew they were a scam they stopped iming me right away. If you have any question as to if anyone has been trying to scam you feel free to PM me or IM me. A few have already asked me about things they had questions about. Sadly there are going to be people trying to scam all over the internet. We are doing our best to keep them off this site.

Ugh!!! What a loser!

Thanks for warning! :D

This sounds more like nigerian scammer.

Nigerians usually start with "Am" rather than "I am". Just saying that from my own observation here and elsewhere on the Internet.

If you feel you have been hit up by such, please let candybrowneyes, Alex or one of the moderators know about it, and we will take the necessary action against them. :)

Brian is absolutely correct =)

I have couple of sns telling me that i won the lotto. yet they are dumb enough that they thought i am a memebr of deaf vp. i told them that i have never been a member of deaf vp.

i think something with honestangel and other sn that i cant recall. sorry.

Also I think they come on AD and sign up and get our AIM, Yahoo and any email addresses we may have on our profiles. That's why I'v took my details off, because of these scammers

Ive gotten two e-mails from two different Nigerian scammers at All Deaf. I got both of them banned. One of them seemed unaware that my first name is a female name and acted like a lonely female in need of male company. The other scammer was a bit too friendly which made me think that my new friend was a scammer at AllDeaf so I reported that person. Both of them got banned.

It is really not that complicated. NEVER send money to someone you have never met, for any reason. A bank email that calls you "Customer" instead of your real name; someone that professes love to you very early in a relationship, then asks for money to meet you; a job offer that wants your Social Security number over the Internet. It really is simple to avoid these things. There is no free lunch. Anyone that thinks so will become a victim. The fact that so many people try to scam tells me it works enough for them to try. Nigerian scams are either "I love you, send money to meet" or "My father left a bunch of money, and I will share with you if you help me". Alas, there are scammers in all countries. There is no Deaf Lotto. Common sense should prevail.

I received something similar it was my friend who send me the instant message, it appears someone might have hacked her computer and I/M everyone on her buddylist to say, we can get free money that pays , 1 million dollars. This spammer is named officer Jones asking you to fill out a paper and I rejected it. They come back to say, we are real blah blah I had to block my own friend. A couple of days later a friend of mine asked me if " Mary" (not my friend real name) sent me an I/M about free money and I said, yes, she did. We don't even know how to tell this to "Mary "bec of the spamming messagings.

heard of all this before, but id ask a lame question, why is it the nigerians tend to do this more than anyone else? i am aware russians do it, americans(must harder to do but doable), china? eastern europe wouldnt be surprising but why nearly all of them come from nigeria?

Of course, ANY message through e-mails and IMs regarding lottery winnings and lost millions is likely to be a scam.

Nigerians (over 70 million of them) are very poor and usually have very little or no incomes. That is probably why they turn to the Internet to scam us to get money.

Nigeria is in the top 5 most poorest nation in the world.
