I was discriminated at the hair salon today (Friday)...

Yeah, the place had a lot of religion overtones to it but I thought no matter, I didn't realize it was going to be an issue, I didn't realize they were going to actually REFUSE SERVICE based on the fact that I don't go to church, I didn't realize they were going to be so nosy and straightforward and actually ask me whether I went to church or not. I mean, I can respect religious decorations and whatnot, but someone asking me that question and then refusing service because they got an answer they did not like, well that crosses the line. I didn't care what they had on their walls or whatever, all I wanted was for my hair to be cut. But they refused service just because I don't go to church...that's a new one for me personally.

It sound like the Hair Salon is a 'Front' for a church ! I would stay away from the salon , it sound like the women are trying to imitimdated people and they sound crazy too! This remind me of Johnny Depp movie , " Sweety Todd!"
Or the "Little Shop of HORRORS! " CREEPY!!

Sounds like BOTH harassment and discrimination to me. But, does anyone know the legal rights of customers here? I think a private business can refuse to serve anyone for whatever reason they want, right? Isn't that what those signs that say, "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" are all about? I know that the ADA protects customers with disabilities, and there are numerous laws about illegally discriminating against employees, but are there the same legal protections for customers based on religion, race, sexual orientation, and gender? I could be completely wrong here, but if it is the case, then Lucia really would have no legal recourse, which sucks because this was a terrible experience. I'm sorry you had to go through it, Lucia. :(

I concur. The laws being cited here are in relation to employment laws. The laws covering discrimination in service provision are directed at hospitals, physicians, and social service agencies.

Am sorry you had such a <bleep> time, too Lucia.
Lucky that you are good to cut your own hair not so good, reason WHY-

Very smart of you to grab those notes!!

I think you look very nice in your picture-

Thank you. I've maintained this haircut for a long time. I love this haircut because it is so easy to take care of, takes only 30 seconds to wash my hair and I still keep the "girly" look with the long bangs in front. Only takes 30 seconds to do my hair and then go out somewhere. I don't like to be "high maintenance" with my hair.

trying to be a red hot irish are ya?
LOL
nice colours not too glaring bright i've seen, and not dull, just bang in the middle. nice bangs - i didnt know it was called bangs, how come that? just curious
cheers

LOL no the color is hot pink, it probably just looks red on your end, not all computer monitors display colors the same, it varies from monitor to monitor, I've seen hot pink on my monitor and then seen it be very red on another monitor, and then seen it be light pink on even another monitor. Maybe you just need to adjust the brightness on your monitor, very easy to do. My monitor is on full brightness unless I have a headache and then I reduce the brightness to 50%.

As for being Irish, I am not sure if I have Irish in my blood but I know I am Native American, I belong to at least 2 different tribes (bloodwise). I know you're joking, though. :)

As for the bangs, I have no idea why they are called that, I've always heard the front part of the hair on the head be referred to as bangs all my life so that's all I know to call them.

I've dyed my hair other colors as well, I've had Vampire Red, Midnight Blue, and Deep Red Auburn (beautiful!) and I've tried blonde but it wasn't a good look for me, it did not go together with my dark brown eyes, it just looked too fake, too obvious. I have naturally black hair. I was actually born with dark red hair, it went to darker auburn red as I got a bit older, and then when I turned 5 my hair just went black and it's been naturally black ever since. I was born with very curly hair but I lost them a couple years later :( so now I have kinda wavy hair but not all over, just in different parts of my hair. And for some weird reason I ended up with some white hair on the side of my head, it appeared when I was 20 and it has been there ever since. I don't try to hide it, it's not really a big deal. It's not something to be ashamed of. *shrugs* Although I had some strange guy at Walmart pointing to the spot today, what an asshole. I wish I still had the tight curly hair. Oh well. Dyeing my hair is really fun anyway, I don't like to be boring, LOL.

Cheers to ya too Grummer!

Lucia - I can't tell but is back of your head short-shaved or you're wearing ponytail?

Never forget....I dyed my hair green in the 8th grade....dunno why I did it! Got the shyt smacked out of me (mamma)...was always such a "rebel" I think....been a "green head, black head, auburn head, brunnette and now back to a blonde head...

Always "wondered" how I'd look with my head shaved...sort of like "GI Jane"...but never had the guts to do it. But I've come very close on those "bad hair days".....

I don't know.. but it seem that everybody have been reject on you, Lucia.
