An English woman developed an allergy to water after giving birth that is so severe she can't even go out in the rain and is only able to drink Diet Coke, the Daily Mail reports.

Michaela Dutton, 21, developed a condition known as aquagenic urticaria after giving birth to her now 3-year-old son, Mitchell.

The condition, which is also known as water urticaria and aquagenous urticaria, affects just 1 in 230 million people worldwide and causes hives to flare up on the skin within 15 minutes of coming into contact with water. The hives can last for several hours.

Although it is considered an allergy, it is not a histamine-related allergy like most other allergies, which means that antihistamines such as Benadryl do not work to prevent or control symptoms.

Dutton is unable to drink tea, coffee or fruit juice because they make her throat blister and swell up, according to the Daily Mail.

She survives on Diet Coke, which her body tolerates, even though it contains carbonated water. Even coming into contact with her son's tears or sweat makes her swell up.

Because of the water allergy, she jumps into the shower for just 10 seconds a week. The rest of the time she wipes herself down with a cloth.

That is almost unthinkable. Water is such a big part of our lives. I feel for her - she has to adjust to everything water-related to make this bearable.

Almost food come with water inside and even the body is 60% water. That make no sense. That's terrible.

Wow, that sucks big time.... and sad. I can't imagine living like that.... I love bath/shower too much to give that up!

It's rare for people who is allergic to water. :( Sad!

I hope someone find a cure for it but I doubt it. :hmm:

Only interest that she cannot sleep with someone who easily sweat, getting rash. Oh my my.

Ouch, I can't imagine being allergic to water! It's crazy for sure....I heard there's some gal who's allergic to SUN!

I'm allergic to sun. Everytime I look at it, I sneeze. I wonder if it happen to anyone else. My aunt didn't believe me so I had to show her. Then she assume it is because dust falls on my nose.. But it doesn't happen when I look up at anywhere. just when I look at the sun

yes I know you are not suppose look directly at the sun but you know what I mean..

wow that really sucks...i mean to not be able to shower properly or hold her son when he crying without having to get hives, thats something that they shud definitely find a cure for or at least medication
