He has clearly demonstrated his family values by inviting his mother-on-law to move in with the family in the White House.

That is not family values. That is a trusted and free babysitter. I sure do not think it is a bad thing but It doesn't demonstrate family values.

My MIL recently died of cancer and yes, even if I couldn't stand her she would have been welcome to live with us.

Nuclear families were the norm 50 years ago whereas today--everyone is an extended family as families are more spread out.

It will be interesting to see the Obama girls grow up. I remember the Carters, they were more like a regular family-with embarrassing relatives-than the "clean-cut images" of First Families in the past. Remember Miss Lillian? Even Patti Davis was a breath of fresh air in the Reagan years. I like presidential families with at least one normal member-meaning, in every family there's a "black sheep"-one that bucks convention. I like those.

"Extended family" includes more generations and other relatives living together in one house. That could include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws.
American society became more nuclear family oriented after WWII.

I'm sorry but in American politic - what the politician does in his private life is also public's business. That's the price of being public servant. That's why we know everything about the President's health and his family.

It's also here in Europe countries as well. We know the politican's private background because they are volunteer to share their positive and negative private background in their interview with journalists.

We don't care but interesting to read their private background but mainly important for us to focus their political background to see either we trust them to take care of people and country or not.

President-Minister Horst Seehofer (married man of over 30 years and have 3 adult children) had an affair with his younger employee, expected his child in 2007 that's time he was Federal Minister for Health and Social Security. He won at election to become Minister-president last year. I personally admire his job as politican but private, I feel sorry for his wife... His wife forgave him... I would support his wife if she divorced him but she decided to forgive him and stay married to him... Oh well... It's not our business but between him and his wife...

French president Sarkozy have been married 3 times... They divorced soon after he won at his 1st election and married to supermodel... Do we care? we don't.

again..... contact Jillio. You'd be very surprised how incredibly difficult it is to report the rape/sexual harassment and also how EXTREMELY commonplace it is. MANY MANY cases are UNREPORTED.

MANY women dropped the cases because of several reasons it's traumatizing and TOO LENGTHILY... and it's TOO embarrassing because of intensive public scrutiny... and who is going to believe? unknown woman or powerful politician?
