KATV anchorwoman attack at her own home!

I've spoken to her a few times; she was a really nice person who was passionate about her job. This news sickens me. :(

Police Seeking Suspect In Pressly Attack, Chief Issues Statement On Misleading Information - todaysthv.com | KTHV | Little Rock, AR

Little Rock police say they are seeking a suspect in the fatal beating of 26-year-old television anchorwoman Anne Pressly.

She died Saturday from injuries suffered during a brutal attack in her home.

More than a week after the attack, police said they still believe Pressly was attacked at random rather than because of her high-profile job on KATV.

Asked whether that should give residents cause for alarm, police spokesman Sgt. Cassandra Davis said, "Crime occurs throughout the city and we are advising the citizens to maintain the same sense of discipline to keep themselves safe as we do all the year around.

"We have not discovered anything that would lead us to believe she was a targeted individual," Davis said.

Pressly's purse was missing the morning of the attack and investigators have said it is possible the anchorwoman was a robbery victim. Davis said police were seeking an individual, but don't know who he is, or know his name.

KATV established a reward fund for information. The station said the fund exceeds $30,000 and that Pressly's family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the fund or a scholarship fund established in Pressly's name.

Pressly's funeral is set for Thursday, though the location has not yet been announced. Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock is handling the arrangements.

Police Chief Issues Statement On Case

Monday, Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas issued a release on the investigation into Pressly's murder, explaining the department's actions.

Here's the complete release:

This release addresses the continuing investigation by the Little Rock Police Department regarding the homicide of Anne Pressly. The Department has not released incomplete, speculative or developing information during the course of this investigation, but such should not suggest that work is not proceeding nor being aggressively pursued in this matter. The quality and integrity of this investigation is paramount to the Department and, given the volume of work involved, the untimely release of inaccurate or incomplete information tends to misdirect investigative time and efforts. As a result, the Department has refrained from public disclosure of daily investigative progress and has discouraged the release of any information pertaining to this investigation. The Department will most assuredly make public any information which might, in the determination of the Detectives working this case, advance the investigation or might be useful for the security of the community as a whole. Detectives assigned to the Department's Violent Crimes, Homicide, and Crime Scene Search Units are actively participating in this investigation. The Department has also utilized the assistance of the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, the North Little Rock Police Department and the United States Secret Service during the course of the past week. Personnel with the Crime Laboratory have invested significant effort and hours in the furtherance of this investigation and the members of the Little Rock Police Department are grateful for their work. The Department has also been in contact with the local F.B.I. Office, the Arkansas State Police, and the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Arkansas and may access any needed resources or the expertise of those agencies if needed.

I recognize that the lack of daily disclosures or additional information is frustrating to the media and to members of our community. However, the foremost objective here is for a successful investigation leading to an arrest and conviction in this matter and the Department will conduct any releases of information with this objective solely on point.

The Department continues to respond to all other service requests and incidents as required. The past week has been difficult with three homicides in this City, each tragic and senseless and devastating in and of itself, but I believe the Department has and will continue to respond appropriately.

Any complaints or criticism concerning the Department's efforts or the lack of public releases of information should be addressed solely to me and not to the police officers and detectives who are working diligently on behalf of our citizens.

LRPD Calls ‘Suspect’ Reports Untrue

Little Rock - A Little Rock police spokesman had to clarify comments Tuesday that suggested investigators in the Anne Pressly homicide case had a suspect.

National media outlets began reporting late Monday evening that detectives were looking for a specific person in connection with the case, but didn’t yet have that person’s name.

Tuesday morning, Little Rock police spokesman Cassandra Davis said those reports are untrue, and are based on statements she made that were misunderstood.

"What I said was we haven't identified a suspect,” Davis told Channel 7. “And what I meant by that was, there's a suspect out there somewhere. We know, obviously, there's a suspect. We just don't know who it is.

"We do not have a profile. We do not have a figure. We do not have a body, we do not have a face," Davis added.

Police are concerned that the misinformation could give the public a false sense of security, leading people to believe the case was close to being solved.

“[Don’t] let your guard down--thinking we do have a suspect and we just have to ID this person. That's not the case,” Davis said.

Police insist that they are making progress in the case.

TV Anchorwoman Murder: Man Held
Anchorwoman Anne Pressly Murder Suspect Seized: Curtis Lavelle Vance Held In Little Rock, Arkansas | World News | Sky News

An American man wanted over the murder of a television anchorwoman has been arrested after police were tipped off.

Anne Pressly, 26, was severely beaten on the head and upper body at her home in Little Rock, Arkansas, and died five days later.

The anchorwoman's mother found her 30 minutes before she was due on KATV's Daybreak programme after she failed to answer her daily wake-up call.

The presenter was taken to hospital but never regained consciousness and passed away on October 25.

Curtis Lavelle Vance, 28, was seized by police at a Little Rock property after he disappeared from his home in Marianna.

Police spokesman Terry Hastings said: "We got a tip. We went there and he's in custody. As far as we know he wasn't armed."

The spokesman had previously revealed that DNA and other clues were recovered at the scene of the attack - but detectives did not have a name until this month.

One of Ms Pressly's credit cards was used at a petrol station after the beating.

But Mr Hastings said security camera footage did not have a clear view of the person using it.

The anchorwoman lived alone in Little Rock's Pulaski Heights area, a mix of mansions and bungalows.

Her mother was visiting from out of town at the time of the attack but not staying at her daughter's home.

Ms Pressly briefly starred in Oliver Stone's W movie.

She appeared as a conservative commentator who speaks favourably of President George Bush's Mission Accomplished event after the start of the Iraq war.

Affidavit Released In Pressly Murder Arrest
Affidavit Released In Pressly Murder Arrest - todaysthv.com | KTHV | Little Rock, AR

The parents of an Arkansas television anchorwoman who was beaten to death say there's forensic evidence their daughter was sexually assaulted as well, and she broke her hand fighting off her attacker.

Guy and Patti Cannady talked with the Today show's Matt Lauer on Monday, five days after suspect Curtis Lavelle Vance was arrested in the beating death of KATV anchorwoman Anne Pressly. They said while the police were investigating the case as a homicide, there's a lot of evidence that there was more to it than that.

Patti Cannady went to her daughter's Little Rock home after she didn't answer a wake-up call and found the 26-year-old had been beaten beyond recognition. Every bone in her face had been broken.

Pressly died in the hospital five days later without regaining consciousness.

Guy Cannady said the family still has many questions about the murder. He said the police theory is that Pressly interrupted a random robbery, but he isn't convinced of that.

Vance is being held without bond at the Pulaski County jail. He is also accused of raping an east Arkansas school teacher in April.

An arrest affidavit filed Monday morning in Little Rock District Court shows police believe that several items belonging to Pressly were taken in the attack.

Little Rock police Detective Tommy Hudson wrote in the affidavit that Pressly died after suffering "blunt force trauma" during the attack. Hudson wrote that Vance denied being in Little Rock the day of the attack on Pressly and allowed detectives to swab a DNA sample from his saliva.

The affidavit says it was confirmed "with all scientific certainty" that the DNA found at Pressly's house belonged to Vance.

Parents: Slain Anchor Sexually Assaulted
Parents: Slain Anchor Sexually Assaulted, Family Of Fatally Beaten Ark. Woman Says Evidence Shows Attack Was More Than Robbery - CBS News

The parents of an Arkansas television anchorwoman who was beaten to death say there's forensic evidence their daughter was sexually assaulted as well, and she broke her hand fighting off her attacker.

Guy and Patti Cannady talked with the "Today" show's Matt Lauer on Monday, five days after suspect Curtis Lavelle Vance was arrested in the Oct. 20 beating death of KATV anchorwoman Anne Pressly.

They said while the police were investigating the case as a homicide, there's a lot of evidence that there was more to it than that.

"This monster stole my daughter's innocence," Patti Cannady told NBC's "Today" show. "He took her life. He took her identity. He took our lives. Our lives have radically changed as a result of what's happened to Anne."

Patti Cannady said her daughter suffered a broken left hand in the attack. "She fought for her life, she fought her attacker," she said.

Patti Cannady went to her daughter's Little Rock home after she didn't answer a wake-up call and found the 26-year-old had been beaten beyond recognition. Every bone in her face had been broken, Cannady said.

"Her jaw pulverized so badly that the bone had come out of it," she said. "I actually thought that her throat, it possibly been cut, but that was possibly the first knockout punch. Her entire skull had numerous fractures from which she suffered a massive stroke."

Pressly died in the hospital five days later without regaining consciousness.

Police did not return a call Monday morning seeking comment on the Cannadys' comments.

Guy Cannady said the family still has many questions about the murder. He said the police theory is that Pressly interrupted a random robbery, but he isn't convinced of that.

"Well, it's just unbelievable that a random robbery like this would involve the brutal slaying of Anne in this way. There just seems to be a lot more to the whole story than just a robbery gone bad," he said. "I think he could have been a stalker."

An arrest affidavit filed Monday morning in Little Rock District Court shows police believe "several items belonging to Ms. Pressly were taken from her residence during this attack." In Marianna, police said Vance is a suspect in several burglaries in the eastern Arkansas city, about 90 miles from Little Rock. A detective there said Vance became a suspect in the burglaries after his girlfriend sold reportedly stolen items to a Helena-West Helena pawn shop.

"It was confirmed with all scientific certainty that Mr. Vance is the DNA contributor of the suspect in Ms. Pressly's murder," the affidavit reads.

Guy Cannady said they had mixed feelings about the arrest.

"Obviously, good news for us, but bittersweet in the sense that now that exits from the first chapter of this, her attack, and now into the next chapter, which is the capture of the suspect and into now the trial phase."

Vance is being held without bond at the Pulaski County jail. He is also accused of raping an east Arkansas school teacher in April.

Pressly worked as a morning anchorwoman for KATV and had a small role as a conservative commentator in the Oliver Stone movie "W." She lived alone in the city's Pulaski Heights section, a mix of mansions and bungalows near a country club.

Pressly's mother, visiting from out of town at the time of the attack, found Pressly a half-hour before the anchorwoman was due on air. The anchorwoman had been beaten severely on the head and upper torso.

After arrest, slain anchor’s parents still have questions
Slain anchor’s parents still ask: ‘Why?’ - TODAY: People - MSNBC.com

A suspect is in custody, but unanswered questions remain about why Little Rock, Ark., TV personality Anne Pressly was brutally murdered in her home six weeks ago today, Pressly’s parents said Monday.

“It’s just unbelievable that a random robbery like this would involve the brutal slaying of Anne in this way. There just seems to be a lot more to the whole story than just a robbery gone bad,” Pressly’s father, Guy Cannady, told TODAY’s Matt Lauer in an exclusive interview in New York.

Pressly, 26 — a rising young star who had played a minor role in the movie “W.” as well as being a popular presence in Little Rock — was savagely beaten during the Oct. 20 attack and died in a local hospital five days later without ever regaining consciousness. Her parents revealed to Lauer that there is also evidence that their daughter was sexually assaulted during the attack that took her life.

“This monster stole my daughter’s innocence,” said Pressly’s mother, Patti Cannady. “He took her life. He took her identity. He took our lives. Our lives have radically changed as a result of what’s happened to Anne.”

Suspect in custody
Last Wednesday, Little Rock police arrested Curtis L. Vance, 28, and charged him with the murder. Vance was arrested at his home in Marianna, Ark., a town about 100 miles east of Little Rock. Police say DNA evidence convinces them that Vance committed the murder and sexual assault. Vance has also been charged in connection with the rape of a schoolteacher in Marianna last April.

From the beginning, investigators have felt that robbery was the motive for the attack and that Vance targeted Pressly at random. But her parents feel that the sheer brutality of the murder suggests additional motivation.

Patti Cannady discovered her daughter’s beaten and bloody body in her bed around 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20. Cannady had gone to Pressly’s home when she didn’t answer a wake-up call that her mother customarily made.

For the first time, Patti Cannady described what she found when she entered the neat bungalow in an upscale Little Rock neighborhood near a country club.

“Six weeks ago this morning, I found my daughter beyond recognition with every bone in her face broken, her nose broken, her jaw pulverized so badly that the bone had come out of it; I actually thought that her throat had been cut,” she told Lauer. “Her entire skull had numerous fractures from which she suffered a massive stroke.”

Unanswered questions
Police have said they don’t believe Vance stalked Pressly because of her celebrity as the morning news anchor for ABC affiliate KATV in Little Rock. But the Cannadys remain unconvinced that a simple robbery explains what Patti Cannady saw.

“They indicate that the gentleman had entered the home,” Guy Cannady said. “Their suspicion is that he woke Anne up, and once he saw her he felt compelled to beat her. There are unanswered questions; there are aspects we’re concerned about, again, because of the brutality of it.

“The police are treating this as a homicide but there is a lot of evidence, a lot of forensics, that indicates there was more to it than just the assault,” he added.

The parents said that they will attend Vance’s court hearings and trial, difficult as that may be.

“It’s going to be very tough, but Anne was tough,” Patti Cannady said. “She fought for her life. She fought her attacker. Her left hand was broken from trying to fight this man off. And we can face that. Anne faced a lot. She lost her life over it, and we’ll face it."

Pressly had lived in Little Rock since her teens. She had decided in middle school that she wanted to be a TV anchor. Her dream job was to be co-anchor with Lauer of the TODAY show, and on an earlier visit to the show, the Cannadys had shared a picture that a friend had made years ago for Pressly that showed her and Lauer at the anchor desk.

She interned at KATV during college, always stopping by the station on her way home for Christmas or spring break to see if there was any work she could do. Once she graduated, Pressly landed a job and advanced rapidly from news reporter to morning news anchor.

She did charity work in town and seemed not to have an enemy in the world.
