Chavez congratulates Obama

And?

I am not surprised Chávez congratulated him. Chávez treats women like second-class citizens. My friend is from Venezuela, and she just fled again. Twice. She had to go to Thailand to teach English to save up money. She is still on the blacklist, because she is a member of the political party that is trying to take down Chávez, and it makes difficult for her to seek any job in Caracas. Any employer can look up the blacklist to see if a future employee is against Chávez or not. She also said that everything including food, toilet paper prices in Caracas just had gone up three times. Some of them cant afford them now. Unfortunately, she was going to come to USA for a good life, but she was surprised to find out that immigration fees just increased this year.

Parniod thread...

It´s nice of Hugo Chavez to congrat Obama.

It doesn´t mean that America become communist or whatever because President Hugo Chaveo CONGRAT Obama... JUST congratulation, no more than that...

Ummm, Bush increased the immigration fee by 80% a couple years ago, from about 385 to about 595. If she could fly to Thailand, then what is the monetary problem? Your story makes no sense!

No disrespect.

Some of us are not implying that Obama is going along with Chavez's ideas.

Some of us may simply be saying that he may be tested.

But that is OK.

Since Biden already mention the fact that other countries will be testing the new President.

And the feathers are being ruffled already.

Its a good thing now that we are aware of some of the smaller issues

What lies ahead is what we should be worried about

*cough* economy
*cough*

Isn't that what the majority is concerned about

I agree...it's just a congratulations call, nothing more. So what?

This may be a little off-topic, but the fact that Biden said the new President will be tested is nothing new. If you look at the past, you will see plenty of examples in which the President was forced to deal with a national crisis shortly after being inaugurated.

Yep. It's part of the job as being a President of the USA.

My point exactly !

Chavez is testing him. He isn't exactly a friend of the U.S.

And you are not off topic by any means.

*cough*
Economy

Sorry if I'm off topic.
By choking up the economic cough.

"People Magazine is NOT a source you should be getting your news from. "

Um, it's PARADE news magazine, not People magazine. :)

Ironic that King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia is ranked 5th worst dictator but Bush and King Abdullah are close and was photographed holding hands while walking!

Same difference.

Who? Chavez? Bush has not proven himself to be a friend of the USA unless you are Halliburton.

Woodrow Wilson was an isolationist. That did not work out so well.

It would be dangerous to go back to that type of policy.

Alarmist.

Sigh . . . it's hopeless. :(

It is not couple of years ago. It is $675, not $595. The USCIS fees were increased on July 2007. She was unaware a the time the fees went in effect on July 2007, because she spent in Thailand teaching English after she left Venezeula. When her teaching term was over, she was traveling in Europe to visit her friends, and then had to return back to Venezuela. She was getting frustrated with the situation in Venezuela, and could not get any job there, and her money was running out.

She had to do something and made long term decisions for her future life. She wanted to move to the US, so she started looking up the USCIS information, and found out this year that the fees are high. She emailed me if it is true or not. She was extremely upset, and could not afford to pay $675 to apply for a citizenship application. I told her I offered to pay, but she would not let me. She had been to the US several times before, and loves the US every minute of it.

Two months ago, she just went back to Thailand again. Luckily, her job paid for her trip. The job is the only one that can offer free bedroom and food for her. She doesn't have to worry about paying the rent and food while teaching English, and saving up money, so she can move to either England or Sweden. According to her, Chávez controls the airports. He is limiting the flight routines to the US to make it difficult for anyone to trying to get to the US. Also, he makes sure the flight routines to the US and other countries are more expensive. Creep.

Many countries, including US have huge backlogs of asylum cases.

I sincerely apologize, Barbaro, for jumping to conclusions. That is a failing of mine and I realize it is not a good thing. Apparently you are a good friend of hers and I do not feel worthy of applauding you for it. I am a creep. I accept that.

Oh, It's cool. Your apology is accepted.

She and I go waaaay back. She just sent the photos of her teaching Thai children, and she looked happy. She is very intelligent, and speaks 5 languages. She can pick up new language very quickly. She had taught me basic signs of Venezuela sign language.

I am still concerned for her family in Venezuela, and they chose to stay low while riding it out.
