Hi! I'm new to this website. My name is Allison, I'm 19 and I got to school for ASL in Chicago. I'm looking to meet friends and interview someone for one of my classes! Please let me know if your interested, I would like to talk on aim or yahoo messenger! Thanks!

I'm studying American Sign Language and Deaf Culture for school. I just started the program and one requirement is a 20 question interview with a deaf person. I was hoping to find someone willing on this website.

You could just post your 20 questions here. I am sure many people will be willing to answer.

:welcome: to AllDeaf. I am unable to answer all your questions. Take one at a time or few times as it take a mouthful to answer all the questions that you want for your school. You can start a new thread in one of the topic if this is the correct one for the questions. Like for sign language, you would look into the sign language forum or for CI, you would look into the Hearing aids and CI. That way you will be able to get answers from each of the questions on all the topics that you can select. Twenty questions is a lot to answers all of them. But, anyway, I hope you enjoy reading and posting all the threads here. Have fun with us. See you around. :wave:

Wow you jumped right in there! That's a lot of questions to answer for here. I guess I can't help much since I'm a hearie but good luck with your school project. :)

--born hearing until 6 years old, i lost the hearing and became hard of hearing

2. How did your parents react to you becoming deaf?
--they're cool with it because they're open minded

3. Any other minority?
--umm..in what?
4. Do parents or siblings know sign language?
--Yep!

5. What communication method did you use at first?
--ASL, English, and Tagalog

6. Education background? (school and college)
-Former NTID/RIT student and San Jose State University, California

7. Where do you work? If no job, why?
-Animal control Unit

8. What communication method do you use now?
--ASL, of course

9. Social activities?
-slow pitch softball [usssa], OC movies, hang out with friends, parties and bar

10. What is your view on ASL?
--true natural of language in Deaf Culture

11. View on Deaf Culture?
--Thats where we are stand strong and put our pride for what we have. We born and raised to being a Deaf and empower each other's pride. The culture is already in our blood.

12. View on cochlear implants?
-- No comment

13. Any deaf role model?
--Coach Gil Lentz, Rest in Peace.

14. Where there any frustrations in your life? (Please explain in detail)
--misunderstanding of Deaf Culture from hearing view

15. If you were president, what would you change in the hearing world?
--a long list goes on.

16. Religion-Do you attend church?
--no comment, its my private.

17. What kind of hobbies do you take part in?
--Slow Pitch Softball and my business

18. Significant others or friends-How did you meet?
--through Deaf school and social parties.

19. Have you taught family members signs?
--some of new, yeah. actually slangs.

20. What is the most useful way for you to communicate with your hearing family or friends?
--ASL, writing on notepads, texts, online messengers [AIM, AOL, MSN, YAHOO], and VP.
