Introduce Oklahoma City's new NBA team

Thunder can be heard from miles away, an early warning that a storm is about to arrive. So, perhaps it's only fitting that the name of Oklahoma City's NBA team didn't sneak up on anyone.

Six weeks after the name first surfaced, team officials officially announced Wednesday that the team formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics would be known as the Oklahoma City Thunder

It's good color and sound fit for state. Funny, I learn there is Oklahoma City Lightning for woman football. Weird!

I think it is odd that in the women's football link, they said they have 50 year old women playing full contact football.:crazy:
 
Yippee - Ky- Yay!!!

We have now named another sports team after weather.

I understand our state's history, but I personally think the names Sooners, Cowboys, Thunder and Lightning are stupid and probably did not take much thought. I am sure there were many arguments as to if that should be the final name...but isn't there more to Oklahoma than this?

We have the Yard Dawgs AFL team, The Blazers CHL team and numerous other semi-pro teams. I guess Thunder was an easy choice - they can play AC/DC Thunderstruck when the team enters the Arena.

I guess I should be glad we are not the Oklahoma City Scissortails!

Glad to be but "Furry" was someones accidental typo of 'Fury'. I have more in common with the Furies.

wondered about that...and once again - Chewbacca was filled with fury when Han Solo was taken captive...

now I am just trying way to hard! :lol:
 
Well about time the OK City team was named the Thunder as was rumored weeks ago by some folks in sports forums and more... not bad logo and etc and I do hope the fans of OK City will flock to the basketball arena to see their brand new team play there....

BTW here the logo of the Oklahoma City Thunder...
 
A friend asked me, "What do you think of 'Thunder' as a team name?"

My response? "Umm... let me guess, is that a name of a football or baseball team?"

Since thunder fits the toughness and loudness of football and/or baseball, it would fit either.

Then when my friend mentioned that it was the name of the new Oklahoma basketball team, I replied... "WTF!?" Yep, I was puzzled. Never thought that would be used for a basketball team.
 
when i heard about this, i thought it is about expansion of ABA teams or NBDL teams like that. Later, i read the newspaper, NBA?! So corny.

What's wrong with "Oklahoma City Farmers?"
 
Well there were names branded around, such as Cowboys, Barons, Thunderbirds and others.. I wonder why OKC picked the name Thunder.. ehhh...

Because New England (Patriots) got Farmers first what you say in the other thread. :D

Not bad looks of OKC logo. Would be better to make more intense look logo. :)
 
Why not? They can have two farmers in different sport.

OKF: Oklahoma City Farmers
NEF: New England Farmers

Yeah Max... the OKC logo would have been made better somehow.. I read one article where the capital letter T would have been used as the main logo with the T stylized to be like a lightning bolt or so.. a pity indeed we have to see this logo instead of the rumored logos... oh well...
 
No matter what a new team or franchise chooses for Name and Logo- there will always be critics and it impossible to make people happy sometimes. I suggest those of you in proximaty to OKC to embrace it and support it. Its not like it was terrible thing for Oklahoma City to get an NBA team.
