I don't believe in things that I have to take constantly because my body would develop a dependability on it and something could go wrong if I stopped taking it.

For instance, people who take Asprin daily will develop good blood flow in their bodies. However, when they stop taking it after years and years of daily consumption of it... their hearts could suddenly stop after a few days.

that last statement is about as untrue as me saying the earth is flat

Not really a good idea as this product would only cleanse your bowels, nothing more - something like a bandaid, temporary relief type of thing. You need to see a doctor to get right to the root of the problem. In most cases, prescribed medication is the only way to traet it, alternative remedies tend to be fads and have no treatment properties. Use these type of products as a preventative instead. Good Luck!

Alternative treatments are not fads. It's been around for years, but when medicine have been growing people got into chemical medicines and forgot about the natural medicine as being beneficial.

There have been articles about chemical medications actually doing more harm than good being more like a band aid than treating the root of the problem, which is what alternative medicine does. Alternative Medicine takes patience because it takes time for the body to begin taking the benefits of the alternative treatments.

Chemical medicines can also create other problems that that problem will need another medication. I read about a man who found a natural treatment practitioner helping him with his health with natural treatments who slowly got him off many of his medication. It took a year, but it was working. It is simply a matter of patience.

You should read about it before making quick opinions.

Pinky, there are many people like your sister-in-law. There are also many people like you who shrugs natural medicine. That's okay, but your sister-in-law just annoys you because of her strong beliefs and probably pushy as you already have your mind set that you prefer chemical medicine.

I have seen that ParaGone thing. If your doctor say it's okay, then you can try it and see if it helps. Many medicine doctor don't recommed natural alternatives because that's not their field of study, so they will not see in the same perspective that a naturopathy doctor will see. They will be on the medicine side instead of the alternative side.

Alternative practioners don't advice against chemical medicine. They recognize that it can be life saving at times. They don't always advice stopping your medications. They may recommend things along to eventually help you get off the chemical medications without the side effects.

I am more into natural healing at most times. Not that I am against medicine, I would prefer to use natural remedies for healing. Even when I have a severe headache which only happens maybe 3-5 times a year, I prefer to mediate, close my eyes and go with the flow. My headaches would just stop within 20 minutes. I know someone who has headaches everyday and would take medicine for it. One time she tried to go without medicine for a few weeks, it took a toll on her. She became crabby, anal, and was going through a aspirin withdrawal. She depends on the medicine for her headache.

Asprin Withdrawal? I don't know everything but wonder how that one got passed me

Maybe there's a better medical terminology for this but I have seen it how it affects one of my friends. I can't recall when I saw a brief documentary on tv years ago when a person has been using one specific kind of painkiller for over 30 years and decided to wean off it but went through phases where she became desperate, looking for the medicine - could not sleep or eat, almost like a addiction finally decided to get back on it.

I talked with my mom about "paragone" "woodworm" vitamins. She took the box with her to Health Food Store and asked to Herbalist the question. They said I can't take ParaGone. It's wrong kind. My mom couldn't return and get money back to me. She said I have to give to my sister in the law and return to her. My mom said my sister in the law is WRONG! She said, "you can't take Paragone without doctor know. If you get paragone it will cause get worse and will take a test positive of ParaGone in system" I told her that's why I didn't take it yet. I will hands the box "ParaGone and Woodworm vitamins return to my sister in the law". My husband said, "You have to be strong to stand and confront to my sister and give the ParaGone and woodworm return to her and tell her that you can't take it without doctor know." She need to stop depeond on my health. She is not my doctor! She think she know it all about medicine and vitamins more than doctors. She is full of BS!

Pinky, Just ingore your sister in law and take what is recommended to you BY your doctor. (do you have Ulctrive colitis? are you taking steriods for it? my world's bestest friend got it and i have seen her problems for many years, she's now much healthier and on small doses of steroids)
This disorder is highly dangerous and can cause very serious consqences if you cock it up. Stay healthy as much you can with proper healthy food including fruit and vegs. As you would have it for the rest of your life.

I have low blood pressure combined with very high metabolism and my hormones (all sorts) is a mess at the moment, i am being assessed by specialist at the moment.
I don't take anything but vitamin c only in the winter so i can minimise myself from catching colds. I grow my own fruit/vegs and eats alot of it!
I try to avoid drugs at all costs and will take them when i do need it.

R U see an endrocrinologist for Grave's disease?

No, I don't take a steroid pills. Just a steroid shot in my IV when I was at the hospital.

I already return the bag with vitamins to my sister in the law. I wrote a note to her to tell her stop push on me. I let my husband read of my writing a note. He said it's good enough. It's long summary to make her stop tell me to do. It's my body not hers.

Yes, I know that. I am eating a health of fruits and vegetable. I am still taking a multi-vitamins & multi-mineral zinc from my doctor's recommended me.

I used to drink a Mon-aive. I am allergy it.

Ha, yes i am going to see them (endrocrinologist) soon as i make appt, I just recovered from CI operation so will get to that now.

Graves disease sounds drastic! hope i don't have it! Will google what it is! :ty: thank you.

It's not that big of deal...Grave's its just a fancy way to call hyperthyroidism. Despite some risks for complications, its manageable

Hi hohDougRN

Just read few articles of grave's disease.... doesn't sound like i may have it as i don't have many of the symptoms, my problem was unexpected passing out when i got up in the mornings, lower than usual low blood pressure (I have always had low blood pressure, it was back to my usual normal during my CI operation), my 3 blood tests (one month apart, jan, feb, march) inicates drop in coritsol in every test... I have not had any passing outs since january cos i eat biscuit before getting out of bed, No not diabetes (checked already as both my uncles and their mother/my grandma are diabetic)

I feel well now and every part of me is normal but i do notice i get tired easily. but are getting tested out anyway to underline whatever i may have/had and see what happens.

Hope you would get bottom of your sister in law silly antics.

If she contiues to give you the vitamins, just throw it away. If she asks just say "i threw them away because you (SIL) won't listen and it's waste of your (SIL) time, money and effort because I (Pinky) won't take them".
hopefully that way she'll realise and give up, if not just keep throwing them away and ingore her.

Wow no steriods, my friend have to take them for the rest of her life.. umm....thats interesting....

Good luck, hope you stay healthy for the rest of your life.

Its not uncommon for those with UC to have episodes of remission where steroids are not needed and only when exacerbations occur corticosteriods are used. Same thing is often initiated in plan of care with IBS and Crohn's. Both those both involve different disease process than UC.

OTP....Im not wondering if you either have a pituitary gland problems or Adrenal gland cortex dysfunction. My money is on pituitary gland, although yes u are right and I don't know all your symptom or lab results. Sometimes there can be a benign pititary tumor that can cause either a hyperstimulation or hypostimulation of hormones controlling other glands throughout the body. I do not wish to cause speculation, but recommend an follow up MRI on this issue. I am very curious about the mention of CI correlation with your symptoms though and wish to know more. PM me if you desire about this please.

That's true. My sister was dx'ed with UC when she was in college. It's been a bit over 10 yrs since her diagnosis and she's been extremely lucky. She doesn't have many flare ups of the illness. When she does, though, it's pretty bad.

She is on a treatment regimen and will be for the rest of her life.

I had a Beta Glucan pill two days ago for the first time. I had a lot of rash all over my body in 12 hours later. Ugh! I am allergic to this medicine. My sister wanted me to take this pill to boost my immune system to protect my heart from any infections. I never had any allergy reactions on my skin. Now, I have light pink on my skin - the rash. I had the rashes on both side of my chest, and they are gone yesterday. I am itching my arms, buttocks, legs, and chest. I hope that they will go away by tomorrow or the next day. Oh boy! (I am not taking the Beta Glucan.)

A few years ago, my mother had ParaGone, and it was pain the ass to follow up a week, and she did not like the taste.

We found a better way is to drink a tea - Alvita (brand) "Senna Leaf" (tea bags). This will clean your colon which is an easy way to do it when you drink it at night, and you will go to the bathroom big time in the morning. My advice is for you to drink it on Friday night. There is another brand that I like, but I can't find it in my kitchen. I am sure that there are many other kinds of brands at a health food store.

I am sure that it is okay for anyone to take the vitamins as they want. The FDA won the case (NAFA?) to enforce herb industrials to reduce the doses because the FDA rather to focus on doctors' modern medicines due the dirty money. I wish that the FDA should leave us alone, and it is up to us to buy a medicine from a doctor or alternative medicine shop (herb or homeopathic). I believe that both of them need to be balances. If I have a serious health problem, of course I go and see my doctor. If less problem, then I buy the homeopathic.

yes, I wish FDA would add lists approved of Herbal supplements et al with homeopathic tx. Yes, NAFTA, instituted something to better police it, but I doubt highly if they subsidized enough to follow through effectively. I feel FDA as a subtle fear with herbs, d/t there is truely so many FDA approved medications that interact significantly with herbs. I don't see why there is fear of avoidence rather than education. I don't know what stronghold Drug companies have under the table with US Gov't. This is a crazy money driven world and OIL and Drug Companies are the richest corporations on the planet. It is a corrupt world, I feel regular people get left out to dry. There are many benefits from homeopathic therapy for those searching for alternative, but you will have to self educate because of the reluctance from some physicians (among others) who just do not specialize or educate themselves enough.
