It is not an "alternative method". It's insult to the deaf to say such things. There are laws concerning this, see: 28 CFR.

NAD, National Association of the Deaf, state and local colleges - National Association of the Deaf

I'm sure you'll try an contradict this as well.

How is "alternative method of communication" insulting? That is exactly what an "auxillary aid" is intended to do. Provide an alternative to spoken communication.

And no where does the ADA state that a TTY has to be available on the college campus. As long as they accept relay calls, allow a student to communciate via email instead of by phone, or have VRS technology, they have fulfilled their obligations under Section 504. If you will read the ADA a little more thoroughly and completely, you will see that TTY is mentioned only as an example of an "auxillary aid", and not as a mandated service.

I am not contadicting. I am correcting your misinformation. Quite a different thing. Perhaps, if you were a bit less defensive, you could actually take the opportunity to increase your knowledge rather than concentrating on being offended.

Yes, jasin, tty is listed. But they do not have to provide a tty if they provide alternative means of communication, I.E. email, availability of relay, VRS, etc. You really have no idea what you are talking about.

And before you start telling people to ignore me, you might make sure that you know where I work and what I do. Trust me, I know quite a bit more about providing services for the deaf in a college atmosphere than you at your age and level of inexperience at even using accommodations could possibly know.

You are so intent on increasing the deaf/hearing divide that you are busy judging people based on hearing status, rather than on what you need to be looking at. You are no better than an audist in your attitudes. In the process, you are telling people to ignore advise that could very easily solve the problem they are having. Great way to help the deaf individual towards independence!

Re: my respect for the deaf: once again, you have no idea what you are talking about. I respect people as people. Some deserve respect, some don't. Hearing status has nothing to do with it. Quite obviously, you are one of those that has such a big chip on his shoulder, and is so angry about his hearing status that you have come to believe that your deafness alone entitles you to be handled with kid gloves and to receive special treatment at the hands of all. Respect is a 2 way street. If you expect to get it, you must give it.

BTW...I have been a member of the NAD for many years. Can you say the same?

That's not what the law states. Go back and reread 28 and 29 cfr.

Sweetie, I am more familiar with the ADA and Section 504, not to mention IDEA, than you will ever be. I am not the one having problems comprehending what it says.

There are laws concerning telecommunications for the deaf. Our government even funds and regulates this stuff specifically for us. Now you say we don't have a right to it because we can email???

The telecommunications for the deaf has been mandated into law for the deaf. Hell, our government even funds a lot of these things for the deaf. Now a stupid hearie comes on here and says we don't have a right to them because we can email???

Telecommunications for the deaf can mean any form of telecommunication and does not specify a TTY. That is where you are getting confused.

And this stupid hearie is trying to edcuate an ignorant deaf person. Obviously, you are incapable, however, of learning.

You obviously are mistaken about several things regarding "your rights". You are going to have a tough life ahead of you if you don't learn to listen to people who know a bit more about certain things than you do. You could not possibly have learned as much as you think you know in the few short years you've been on this earth.

And you might try reading my posts a little more carefully, as well. I did not say that the deaf were not entitled to have a tty. I said that the college is under no obligation or mandate to have a tty if they offer other forms of communication that are accessible to the deaf.

Write a formal letter for your request, CC it to the next person in command (his immediate supervisor). Be sure to include the last times you made the requests and how. Also, include the nature of your disability and the best way to reach you for an answer. If he does not respond in five business days, then take the letter and go to the next chain of command. At that point, you can file a grievance with the Disability Support Office. Keep going until you get an answer.

Thats not evident by your postings!!!!

My mom said that when i was younger but now i know that i don't know everything.

LOL! All kids think that at some time. But as they get older, they start to realize how little they do know. Some people never get there, because they never grow up.

You are forgetting that Jasin is not young or angry.

He told me so when I tried to stand up for him.

It is very offensive to him if anyone thinks this of him.
