I wish I have a mini bte. I have a bad news! I can't get a new HA from VR. It's stupid rules! I can't afford to buy another new HA. I am still go to audiologist on Wednesday. I thought I have 90 db but it was my born. Now I have hearing loss served to 110 db now. I am pretty disappoint.
If you suggest me to have a Medicare cover for my new HA. The problem is medical bills is high right now because I was in the hospital last Jan. Do you have any idea for me to get a new HA?? If not then I will get a CI next 2 years later. I don't want too waste money on HA and CI.

Hey Lilitalia and Doug, I am asking you a question. Is your earmold with skeleton soft or hard?? is that comfort to wear?

My mold is skeleton hard mold...i don't get itchy ears or sweat problems either. my friend has skeleton soft molds and her ears are always way too dry and looks like eczema. the only complaint maybe is that if were hit it could break easier but other than that i think they are comfy..but i dont think they are usually used with a severe/profound losses

I just wonder that all. Do you mean serve/profound can't use for skeleton earmold? I used to have a half shell earmold. I didn't like it. Because it make shrink easy. I have to got a new earmold every 1 years. It waste my money. I prefer full shell one. Because it's long last. I just curious about skeleton that all. Thank you.

The skeleton is nice cuz u get a bit more air to ur ear instead of the fullness of the full earmold. I know u can get skeleton ear mold just not sure if u can get the hard material cuz i think it causes feedback issues

I never have get a silicone and other material. I am using vinyl in my whole life. I never have problem with it. I like the air in my ear instead of full. I have an appointment with audiologist tomorrow morning.

I like skeleton molds a lot. I only occasionally get feedbacks with it though. It is softer acrylic material. Audi asked me if I was sure I want skeleton mold because she stated with severe losses they recommend full molds. Oh well. I feel this is comfortable to wear and have had no misfittings with sores or feedbacks. Pink- you should ask audi if you can try it or see what he/she thinks. I think it could be good for you considering our hearing loss are very close to same as each others.

Thank you very much ocean! That is very kind of you. I was one of those who wanted something diff with my hearing aids. I was very blessed by the lord at that time to pay for the high costs of 2 new aids. My socioeconomic status is very much defferent now, but remain greateful for my hearing aids.

I have had skeleton molds for a while. First soft ones that caused an allergic reaction, and then hard ones that are causing feedback! I went last week and my audi took new impressions for full shell molds...I think. I haven't really been paying attention to what she is doing lately. Not enough time!

I went to audiologist this morning. I made a new earmolds. I asked my audi what kind of earmold do I wear right now? She said it's silicone. I thought it was vinyl but I was wrong. I asked to my audi about skeleton earmold for profound. She said I can't take it because it's profound. I will get a hearing re-test before I get new earmolds. It was my last time get a hearing test last 4 years ago.

here's another pic of my HAs. I created something fun on my HAs from photobucket. my actual HAs color in tan.
That was a good idea from litalia89 Plain color looks boring. I'm going to pick color black for new digital HAs next year. Last edited by yagazn; 08-30-2008 at 11:20 PM. |

It can be done. If too much FB does occur your audiologist should be able to remake it for a full shell mold at no charge (all earmold labs have a warranty period for fit and feedback). I wouldn't do a Skeleton mold in acrylic for a profound loss, it's too hard and it doesn't seal off the ear canal as well as silicone or vinyl. If the mold is made long enough (and it should be made long on a profound loss), there is no reason why a silicone skeleton mold can't be used. Feedback occurs when the molds seal breaks from your ear canal, not the concha (the other part the mold is filling up-outside). The nice part about a skeleton mold is that it helps keep the canal in place because of the ring of material around the concha bowl. Where as a just a canal mold (very small), can get squeezed out of the ear with jaw movements because there is nothing to help retain it. Then its just pick your color (clear, colors, glitter, cats eyes, disappEAR, ect). |
