Hi you all. I have to report for Jury Duty tomorrow at 9 am. This will be my first time to do jury duty. Have any one of you done jury duty before? How was it for you? Did you have interpreters or CART? The court phoned here and asked me if it would be all right to go with a CART instead, but I insisted for them to have an interpreter instead! Oh, there's a poll up here too, feel free to answer.

I've heard abt it before... you can ask MikeLinux for his opinion since he has experienced it before.

I was called to jury duty and I happened to miss the summons while I was out in California and summons arrived in mail too late fer me to go back to Chattanooga to finish the summons off

Oh well that was over 10 years ago

jury won't have you since you are deaf once they know who you re? :dunno: bec im sure lawyers were like oh no, an interepter give us slow. haha

I got jury duty while I was in school so my mom had to write a note and say " sorry I was still in h.s by then"

I was 19 when they sent me that stupid letter about jury duty  that was LAST time I got stupid letter about jury duty but :werd: yeah I agree with you it's very interesting to know  blah

My husband got summoned once, and he turned it down, because he feels that he will be "lost" on what to say. So I wrote a note saying that he's deaf and not interested. :dunno:

I have never been summoned though. If it happens, I would request for a certified ASL interpreter. If it's denied, then I'll turn the offer down.

I was supposed to one time, but I don't know what happened. That goes to show I didn't do my duty to show up in court. :o

j/k

Well, I have been chosen to be in the jury, and the trial started today with opening statements and the first witness. It was interesting to see how it all worked out. I had two ASL interpreters today, and everything went smoothly. I was surprised they didn't even dismiss me.

BTW: The woman who was in charge of the jury selections, told me that I was the first deaf person to ever serve on jury for my county. They never have had this experience before, but I am impressed everything went smoothly.

I was asked to serve jury duty too. Problem was that I was a full-time student at that time so I had to send a notarized transcript to the court house to prove that I was a full-time student at the time.

I got on the Jury in New Zealand, but the Judge couldn't accept the Interpreter in the Jury room as only 12 persons are allowed. I wasn't allowed to argue this at that time... so the judge agreed to write to the Minister of Justice highlighting this problem within our laws. So far I've been told that they have approved accepting terps in now... am gonna chase up on this soon.

I've never done jury duty before, but my hubby did sign up to do that and they said they'd let him know when he had to come in.. but never did..they said they didnt know he was deaf and said to forget about it.. I guess they didnt want to have any hassle having a interpreter there, I dont know. He was curious what it was like but now hes not interested.

Actually, I don't think you sign up for jury duty. The county will go through the voter registeration list and make random selection of residents to call to jury duty.
