You tell me how do they get me summon for jury duty.
Each state does it differently. South Carolina uses the DMV list; that is, everyone with a driver's license is on the list.

Yea I just figure out. I was summoned twice in Mass and once in NH. I hope I dont have to hear from them every again. It is too much hassle for me. But my sister loves it and she can go for it. I wish I can give her my summoned

I've never had jury duty nor have been summoned. I think it would be interesting to listen during the trial..

Where I live, Ontario, deaf people, blind people, are not allowed to go in jury duty cuz they believe that deaf should be able to hear everything that is going on, and blind should be able to see everything that is going on, so not even interpreters will be allowed in cuz of 12 only.

Also people who get jury duty are required to go, unless they prove that they have medical reason or important reason not to go.

I have got summoned 2 times when I lived in California, but made excuses with them and they never bothered me again since. I'm really bad, lol. I don't like courts, that's why.

I was summoned for jury duty twice. I told them that I am deaf and they suddenly excused me! :dunno:

You don't have trials by jury of peers in Germany?

No, we don’t have jury trials here in Germany.

The German judges are assisted by few of their colleagues. The Judge’s assistance is search/informed about all legal aspects of a case. Example they collect the case from prosecutor and lawyer to help the judge’s decision.

What happens if you get a judge who personally doesn't like you? Can you get a different judge?

There’re no favoritisms in Courtroom. There’re strict forbidden.

The Judge has a few Assistances, Legal Adviser, Prosecutor & Lawyer who knows about the Legal System. It’s Judge’s Assistances & Legal Adviser who helps Judge with his/her decision before give their right judgment in the public courtroom.

The Judge will get in the trouble if he/she gives wrong judgments. The Lawyer can make appeal with reason writing why he/she disagrees with Judge’s decision and then go to District Court.

No, we don’t choose Judge but right Lawyer who defense for me.

My husband got summoned once, and he turned it down, because he feels that he will be "lost" on what to say. So I wrote a note saying that he's deaf and not interested. :dunno:

You cannot "turn it down" - anyone summoned for jury duty is legally obligated to go (unless you provide proof of disability which I've been reading here ..) I assume that the note you wrote explaining your husband's deafness was what got your husband excused, not that he "turned it down".. Just thought I'd clarify for those hoping to avoid a summons for jury duty.

Well, hey, I object to even proof of deafness as an excuse to wrangle out of jury duty! Jeezzzz

Oh, I wasn't saying that I provided proof of disability to get out of jury duty. I was summoned once -- the form asked anyone needing an interpeter to call the court, so I did. I showed up and there was a court interpreter there, but I did not get called down - they filled the jury before they got to me.

Who chooses the judges? Are they elected?

I got my American co-worker to explain me about America legal system today. I understand now why.

I see that our legal system are different. We don´t choose the judges because there´re no choose/election here in Germany. The assistances of courtroom choose the judges who are specialist for any cases and they have many §§§ systems here in Germany than in America.

Why should I choose or elect the judge if I´m a crime? It´s lawyer, I has to choose, not judge. :dunno:

Question:
Who choose the judge for O.J.Simpson´s and Michael Jackson´s case? Is it them who choose the judge? I´m disagree with jury because they have no experience to have judgement on this case but Judge and his/her assistance in Courtroom. You never know that some of jury are the fan of Michael Jackson or O.J.Simpson?

We have many legal system here in Germany.
Example of all, we can´t sue cigarette company for millions because we KNOW smoking are bad healthy thru warning label on every cigarettes packets. It´s not just cigarettes packet but more things from any companies, they label on with warnings. The lawyer will not help me if I want to sue cigarette company because it´s my fault but at America is different system. The people can sue for money whatever they want. They can sue employers for $$$$$$$$$ etc in America.

We can only sue if the employers or any companies who hurt our contract agreement or our image, also body harm, too.

You see that we have many legal system here in Germany than America.
