What Books Have You Recently Purchased?

Wow! How have I not heard about this? I get the willies from just looking a Chimp in the eye at the zoo. There is awareness there I tell you.

The ones in the zoo very un-wild and since they see Vets constantly they do not have the virus.

Off topic. Have started a new thread on this. Yes AIDS originated in wild chimps. ;)

Also, I've already read this a few years back if you like computers and history, and the people behind it that made computers possible. A pretty good read and has some fascinating parts to it, especially during the 1940s.

AIDS in chimps is just a theory. Not a fact. A lot of people believe it, but I don't. They can become infected kind of like wild rabies, and that can hurt us if we are bitten, but we can't get AIDs from being bite by them unless we already have AIDS as a recessive gene chilling waiting to be activated.

The book is about human's killing off chimpanzees. There use to be thousands in the world and we are down to just hundreds due to humans killing their homes or killing them for money.

oh I just saw Bott created a thread so I'll reply to your post in other thread.

lol... nice touch. This one I have to post outside my cubicle.

Ah, books... my guilty pleasure. I could easily blow an entire paycheck on some if I didn't have the discipline. This is for 2010, so far. Anyone wants to join me in book rehab? :)

As a Man Thinketh - James Allen
The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health - T. Colin Campbell
Unlimited Power - Anthony Robbins
Awaken the Giant Within - Anthony Robbins
The Fifth Sacred Thing - Starhawk
Loneliness: Human Nature and the Need for Social Connection - John T. Cacioppo, William Patrick
Nice Girls Don't Get Rich: 75 Avoidable Mistakes Women Make with Money - Lois P. Frankel (Ironic, much?)
Empress Orchid - Anchee Min
Duct Tape Marketing: The World's Most Practical Small Business Marketing Guide - John Jantsch
Grace and Grit: Spirituality and Healing in the Life and Death of Treya Killam Wilber - Ken Wilber
Escape from Cubicle Nation: From Corporate Prisoner to Thriving Entrepreneur - Pamela Slim
10,001 Ways to Live Large on a Small Budget - The Writers of Wise Bread

To make myself feel better, there are two more books that I've read/I'm reading for free online. Check them out if you are interested:

The Autobiography of a Yogi - Paramhansa Yogananda
Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramhansa Yogananda - Crystal Clarity Publishers

Deschooling Society - Ivan Illich
DESCHOOLING SOCIETY

I'm probably in the same predicament as you are but I've learned to reel back my enthusiasm over the last several years. I decided not to go to malls because if I walk by a bookstore I'd most likely go in and then come out with a book.

Here's a short list of mine:

GENOME The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters by Matt Ridley.

The Agile Gene: How Nature Turns on Nurture
by Matt Ridley

Positive Aikido: A True Story of Traditional Teachings by Dave Rogers (he was my instructor who wrote this book while he and I lived in New Mexico for several years).

Rare Earth: Why Complex Life Is Uncommon in the Universe by Peter Ward.

Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere: An Illustrated Introduction by Adele Westbrook. This is by far THE best book on Aikido.

The Science of God by Gerald Schroeder

Fermat's Enigma: The Epic Quest to Solve the World's Greatest Mathematical Problem by Simon Singh (love his writing style)

Intelligent Thought: Science vs the Intelligent Design Movement by John Brockman.

Einstein: A Life by Denis Brian

When Computers were Human by David Alan Grier.

Talking Hands by Margalit Fox. This was given to me for free by the author. I was one of many chosen to do a book review on this one.

Unstoppable Global Warming every 1,500 Years by Singer and Avery.

And many more......many of them in electronic versions, some are technical, others are easy reading. I don't read fiction.

If it's a bargain, I'd buy it.

"Girl with the Dragon Tatto" Stieg Larsson. Tons of background, but that what's keeping me guessing so far. Can't wait to find out who "did it".

A lot better than the few sections of the Twilight book (cool idea, terribly stuffy writing).

public library. use it.

just took a look at my bookshelf. I have a very limited space but I keep good books in and rest in storage room.

The Road Ahead
Business @ the Speed of Thought
The Art of Innovation
The Book of Two Guns
The Lazy Millionaire
Ledyard: In Search of the First American Explorer
Traffic: Why We Drive the Way We Do and What It Says About Us
FML (a bday gift from my friend  )

I just recently bought "Emergency Food Storage & Survival Handbook" few weeks ago

one of my all-time favorite sci-fi books. read it when I was a kid - Orion (by Ben Bova). It is great to read a good fiction book along with bunch of nonfiction books because it makes you creative and innovative. think out-of-box.

I have several Robert Zubrin books:
How to Live on Mars
The Case for Mars
Entering Space: Creating a Spacefaring Civilization

I went to see his presentation at MIT and had a little talk. He's a very brilliant man and a very influential consultant for NASA and space community. He signed my book and wrote - "See you on Mars"

XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits By Timothy Greenfield-Sanders

I usually try to avoid hyphenated authors but I gave this on a chance

Got it in Hardcover....

Is it these books that you suggested me to read in another thread last year or so?

Mirror Mirror, Gregory Maguire.... meh, not as good as Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister.

"The Complete Novels of Jane Austen" finally arrived, 7 tales indeed, heavy book, and I'm eager to crack the pages once again =)

Pride and Prejudice = a great book, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

The Last Hero: A Life of Henry Aaron

I will be reading this as soon as it arrives. The man is a truly amaing story (even though he is a democrat :giggle: ) It's such a shame that a piece of crap like Bonds could take away his record by cheating......
