People want to freak out if a government insurance program is mentioned. Try and imply that everyone will be on this program and taxpayer covering it. The gov ins program is estimated to end up costing more than regular private insurance companies premiums. The idea is to enter competition into equation.....therebyreducing cost. Insurance companies have had a hayday with no competition. also, the new health plan is changing regulations particulaly anti-trust regulation which insurance companies have been exempt from in the past. Anti-trust laws prevent price setting.
That would be one thing, except we would be FORCED to pay for something we may or may not choose to be a part of. Have you noticed that the politicians are conveniently exempt from their own policy? What does that tell us?

So, only the middle class and upper class are entitled to better healthcare simply because they have the money while the lower class aren't good enough.

HMO is a joke. Nobody can benefit from it.

Some middle class cannot afford to get insurance if their workplace offers very high health insurance like $900 per month for family with kids or $400 per month for single, that's really too much for them but not happen in all workplace that offers health insurance.

I know this single mom who had to choose between getting healthcare benefits which was about $900 a month for her and her 2 kids or food. If she had chosen to get healthcare benefits, she would only have $10 left a month after rent, insurance, daycare costs, electricity, and healthcare. So, she chose food instead. That was for HMO.

Even people who have jobs that offer healthcare still cant afford the preminuims.

Ouch, too much and I'm sorry to hear.

I have agree with you about some people, either is low or middle class cannot afford to get health insurance.

What is government medical care like in the USA? I'll give you a real life example.

Hubby is a retired military veteran. He uses the local veterans (VA) hospital. On Labor Day weekend he developed a severe ear infection. He got an appointment with his primary care physician. That doctor couldn't help him, so he referred Hubby to the VA ENT clinic. He finally got an appointment yesterday, after sufferring for TWO MONTHS. He arrived at ENT more than one hour early for his 3 p.m. appointment. He wasn't seen until after 4:30 p.m. When he left the hospital at 5 p.m., there were still other 3 p.m. patients waiting to be seen.

Did you know that some of the specialist doctors at VA hospitals are UNPAID volunteers? The VA doesn't have enough doctors.

Hubby and I often get the wrong prescriptions from the VA. We have to be extremely diligent in checking our meds.

The VA system assigns the veterans to doctors and clinics. We have no choice where to go.

America, that is your future (or worse if the money runs out).

I would like to keep my insurance the way it is (far from perfect, but much better than what Reba is describing)....why is that not an option for those who don't want government health care? It's still an option for the politicians, so why not for me, an ordinary American?

Oh really, not happen to me when I'm currently on medicaid and I just got referred to ENT in just same day after went see doctor about frequently sore throat every month and the ENT is great so I cannot believe about how medicaid is doing so well.

My father is retired veteran and he rather to use private insurance from his workplace over go see VA for some reason.

smart man

There's cons for medicaid is limited doctor offices and limited choice of prescription drugs, also not cover on any treatment that is considered as elective.

smart man

No, man and he isn't happy with his workplace insurance plan because he got dropped from my mother's insurance due their new insurance policy wouldn't cover my father under my mother if his job offers insurance so he has pay around $350 per month for insurance, that's not cheap since he made moderate wage ($20's per hour) and has alot of expenses to pay off.

Don't call smart, man.

He obviously still realizes that what he has is better than what the government can offer him.

That wasn't an insult against your father.

Only some improvement because he has pick same insurance that could cover his heart and diabetes treatment due pre-existing condition with other health insurances, there is improvement is less wait and more doctor choice over VA.

It don't surprise me about VA is no better than medicaid/medicare.

I don't plan to get insurance from my workplace because of expensive so I'm sticking with medicaid.

And when EVERYONE goes on the government health plan, there will be no more medicaid and there will be no more selection of doctors and there will be more wait time....everyone will be treated equally....everyone will suffer.

all for more reason why I do not support this health care bill in the first place. However - I wouldn't mind this health care reform because we do need lot of changes but mandatory coverage? :ugh: OH HELL NO!

Go read my previous post again, I'm not support everyone to get health care under government and you are very big misunderstood, I'm talking about people who cannot afford to get insurance or their workplace don't offers insurance so action is required if they want get covered, I don't know about if public options should include or not.

Look at Canada, they do have government-run health care that anyone can access to them or they can opt for private health care, according to Royal and Banjo's post.

Foxrac, I don't think you understand what the government is proposing. They aren't just offering health care to the uninsured masses. They are forcing EVERYONE to have the same health care, run by a government that is already trillions of dollars in debt. I fail to see how this could possibly end well.

you know what's sad? it's cheaper to pay fines for not being insured than to pay for mandatory health insurance fee.

The bill is proposing about require everyone to have insurance coverage, either is public or private, such as Blue Cross and if you still have own insurance so you are good to go, additional on bill is also expanding the coverage for uninsured.

It isn't all about government owned health care or government owned insurance to everyone, that's no make sense.

You know what's even sadder is that they will probably end up automatically deducting it from our paychecks.

Please show me in the proposed plan where it states that.
