Remember the thread Gluten Free diet I posted? For those that read it...
Well, I don't know if it's still related to diet now ( the stomach issues ). I injured my hip on thursday went to doctor on friday and was told that the lower right abdominal pain I was having may be my appendix although I was sure it was from the hip injury. The doctor pressed on the area where the appendix is located and it was some what painful but we're unsure if it is or not and he wanted me to go to the ER if the pain got worse. It's now Sat and I'm doing ok. No pain around that area but then again I'm on lortab for the pain. I just finished eating and my stomach does hurt but its been that way for months now.

Anyone here have experience with the appendix? was it something that came on suddenly or was it gradual? I'm unsure of why it'd start hurting now since I injured my hip. I only tore a ligament...I had to run up hill quite a ways into the forest ( was deer hunting ) and if my appendix was already affected maybe the running and sudden stops and turns aggravated what was already there? I've always heard of the appendix is affected it's always an ER visit. This just doesn't sound "typical" to me. I don't think you can go months with an inflamed appendix but who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

I cannot afford to go to the ER anyways.

You cannot afford to go to the ER?

Seriously, if your appendix is inflamed, you are put at the risk of a ruptured appendix which could kill you. It's much cheaper to get an inflamed appendix looked at and fixed than a ruptured appendix.

Right. A burst appendix happens FAST and you do not want to be monkeying around getting yourself to the ER if/when that happens.

It might or might not be your appendix, but it's worth getting it more completely checked out to know for certain.

Pain is always a sign that something is not right.

There's an inflamation called "appendagitis" which is completely diffferent from appendicitis where both are similar in its response to pain. My wife had the appendagitis about four months ago and thought it may be appendicitis and went to the emergency room. CT scan showed it to be a appendagitis and was sent home with pain medication. At least get some attention and have someone look at it asap.

Most hospitals take people that can't afford to pay in their ER. They'll help you get state insurance after they treat you. The hospital in my city does this.

I had pain on my side for and thought it was my appendix and they told me it was a gallstone. They sent me home. A week later it was so unbearable and I was so weak could not even stand up hardly. It ended up being an ectopic pregnancy that was ruptured and I was bleeding to death inside.

Best thing to do is goto the ER and let them examine you to find out the cause of your pain. Since it can be many things. They have social workers there upon discharge, that you can speak to regarding the bill based on income or applying for medicaid.

OUCH!!!

I'm glad you went again and got treated for the right thing before it got any worse!

Back about 25 years ago I had a severe pain for three days that I was beginning to think might be appendicitis. It came and went, but eventually was so bad I couldn't stand it. Finally I went to the ER, and found out it was an ovarian cyst that had twisted and was beginning to go gangrenous. I was in surgery that night and in the hospital for 10 days.

That experience certainly informs my thinking about getting to a hospital sooner rather than later if you have intense pain. There are all sorts of things that can happen in that general area of the body, none of them good if left untreated.

Ouch, I am sure that was just as painful. They ended up giving me a blood transfusion since I lost over half of my blood. They ended up giving me 4 pints of blood. It is something I would never wish on anyone. The pain was way worse than labor pains.

I hope the OP goes and get check out. The doctor told me if I would have went to bed that night insted of the ER I would have bled to death before morning.

Wow. That sort of thing can sure make you pay attention.

Yes, in my case, it did hurt lika a sonuvabitch. When it got to be steady pain, instead of intermittent, I realized it was stupid to "tough it out," whatever was happening.

I asked him if I possibly could have died from it, and he said "Not likely; you would have been screaming in pain before too long and someone would have brought you in before you died."

Oh. Good to know, I guess.

Well... what took me so long to go back to the doctor is they originally Dxed me as having a gallstone. They gave me medication and put me on a diet to help stop the pain. So I was waiting for the pain to go away and it never did. A week later I just got so sick and weak. I could not stand it and told my SO I have to go back.. something was not right.

Reading these posts have given me second thoughts about waiting it out. I see my doctor on Monday and if he still wants me to get it checked out at the hospital I'll go. I have health insurance but simply cannot afford what insurance will not cover. I agree that it's better to get it checked out than to die if it is. So far I've been ok today. My hip has not been bothering me but my lower right abdominal area is a little uncomfortable but not painful.

It could be many things. The ectopic pregnancy is one that I've always been concerned with since I had my tubes tied I'm at a higher risk of having that according to what I was told when I had it done.

I'll update when I go. Knowing my husband he'll refuse to take me tonight so I'll just have to wait until I see my doctor on Monday.

I'll be looking this up I've never heard of it before.
Thanks!

I've had appendicitis when I was a kid so my appendix was surgically removed. It was supposed to be a quick routine job - 30 min job but surgery took about 4 hours. my parents were frightened and thought I was dying. It took long because surgeon had to clean up the mess. It was because I waited a bit too long. My appendix bursted open. It began with a very bad stomachache and I laid down for 3 days. Since there was no sign of improvement, my parents got worried and took me to doctor. Doctor poked around and pressed down where the pain was. She told my parents to immediately take me to hospital. Took me one month to recover. Now with modern technology and advanced procedure.... it takes 1 week to recover because they perform surgery thru a tiny hole. I think just 2 holes - thru your belly button and lower abdominal. and get this... you will be conscious throughout this surgical procedure :Ohno:

I had epiploic appendigitis which feels like and looks like appendicitis last year. Worst pain ever. Was bed-ridden for few days and it wasn't getting any better. Finally decided to go to ER and all I got was a bottle of Vicodin... that happy pill made it better for me and all I can do was just wait it out and let it subsided by itself.

My tubes are tied too and was tied at the time of the eptopic pregnancy. A home pregnancy test may help you if you are late for your period. But I would still go to the ER if you are in pain, and do not know where it is coming from.

If the pain persists and/or you develop a fever, go have it looked at. Do you have a family doctor?

Why would he refuse to take you?

The issue is two. 1) He down plays it and doesn't think my doctor is correct because I also injured my hip so he thinks it's just my hip. 2) money.

I'm not fully convinced it's an inflammed appendix myself and do not want to go to the ER only to find out it's nothing but I will go and if my husband has an issue with it he can just shove it. If it's what my doctor wants come monday I don't think it will be a problem then. It was a shock to be told to go to the ER if it got worse-he wrote me a note on his rx pad to give to the ER nurse to get me in quickly so I wouldn't have to wait in case I did go. So, it was equally a shock to my husband as well. He's the kind of person that doesn't like to deal with stuff like this and I can understand that. We both hope it's just the hip injury and I don't want to waste money either but if it comes to it I will go although I don't want to.

As for the family doctor, it was the family doctor that suggested the ER if it got worse. He's a good doctor I've been with him for close to 7 years now and this is the first time he's ever mentioned an ER visit. I asked him if he wanted me to go that day Friday when I went to see him because I was just shocked he was telling me this and he said not if you don't want to but if it gets worse please go to the ER and come back on Monday.

I'm guessing he wants to check me out again and soon because he knows me well enough to know that I didn't go to the ER. He had to force me to see a specialist for the arthritis that I have that is an autoimmune disease but that's in remisson now thankfully.

I think I'll be ok until Monday.

As for the ectopic pregancy concern I'm pretty certain I'm about to start my cycle. I was not aware that a pregnancy test kit could pick up an ectopic pregnancy. Thanks for the information! I typically test if I am late just to be on the safe side although it's rare to get pregnant after a tubal but I'd prefer not to take that chance and test whenever I'm late. I do not want kids and will not have an opps kid either!:giggle:

How long after you had them tied did you have an eptopic pregnancy?

I had my tubes tied 5 years prior to the ectopic pregnancy. Yes, the human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG hormone is picked up in any pregnancy.

My pain was so bad that it radiated to my shoulders. (referred pain) My whole side all the way up to my neck was hurting.
