The cost of a ticket is getting to be outrageous.

Here in California its over 10$ unless you catch the matinee.

Doesnt anyone think that just might discourage people from going?

I know I'm going less and less....just picking out the ones I HAVE to see.. not just to pass the time, know what I mean?

Will there be a ceiling? An end? They go up like eveery year not to mention. 10 years ago they were 6$.

And this is why Star Wars is definatly the highest grossing movie of all time.

I know what you mean,

Here it's costs 9 dollars just to go to the theaters and I think it's ridiculous. I mean the last time I actually gone to see a movie in theaters was about a year ago... pathetic I know but it's so expensive. I know I can wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it on Red box or Neflix. Cheap, plus you can be comfortable at home, watch it whenever you want to, and it has closed caption, something Theaters does NOT have.

So I much rather wait until it comes out in DVDs instead of going to theaters and pay 9 freaking dollars just to watch it without captions.

The nearest place the price is varies from 8 Euros (10,5USD) to 10 Euros (13USD)

I barely ever go to the movies... Too expensive in my POV! I though want to watch Slumdog Millionaire and we consider going tomorrow! Hope it won't be sold out!

I remember 15 years ago, it was only $4 to see the movies. When I went to RIT, the prices would go up 25 cents every year from $6 to $8. Then it went up by 50 cents each year.

The last time I went to the movies here, tickets were $9.50 each. :(

I still get free pass at AMC. My son works as Film Projector Tech and MGR.

Lucky you! :)

Sometimes, those Entertainment coupon books (HUGE coupon books they sell every year) will have a bunch of coupons that let you get tickets for $6 each. I did that last year. :)

The last time I went to a movie theater last year, it cost me $8.50 if I remember correctly. Now with that rate - $10 for example is ridiculous as it keeps increasing.

That's why I prefer DVD, which it comes out with captions or subtiles. I'm a member of Netflix, so I'm happy with that. ;)

I can watch any DVD I want than paying that much to just sit and watch the big screen without a caption at Theater :(

Yeah, that's very true!

It's actually a lot cheaper to buy the DVD and watch it with a few friends than to have everyone whip out $10 each! ;)

Or... just rent it! ;)

Yep... gather a few friends and order pizza if all friends wants and pay altogether, and watch the rented movie together, can't beat that compared to theater. ;)

I agree, its best to go to the movie theater waiting for your favorite movie. I am not much a movie goer , its okay to enjoy the buttered popcorn and snacks once in awhile :)

I just sneak in my own snacks and drinks. Their prices are highway robbery!

That's true too!!! We love doing that every once in a while. Not to forget that if we don't like the movie we switch DVDs :D

Yes, I remmy my mom would do that sneak snacks in her purse for us :giggle:
When I was at RIT, I had a friend who was in a wheelchair. He always had a backpack on his wheelchair.

Whenever we went to see a movie with a bunch of friends, we would meet at Walmart that was across the street.

We'd buy a bunch of snacks, then load them all up in the bag before we go to the movies.

When we get in, he'd open the bag... "Okay, who got the Twizzlers... Snickers... Pepsi... Cherry Coke... M&Ms...?" Hehehe!

I know what you mean , those days were fun. I remmy my friends doing that as well hiding stuff in our pockets or handbags lol

The movie industry is ripping people off with these outrageous prices in these hard times. That's why I "boycotted" going after the last time, it costed almost $50 for my whole family to go to a movie. It is ridiculous and I refuse to continue to get ripped off like that.

When I was in Rochester, I used to go to movies almost every week with my friends. As the years went by, I went less often because of the increasing prices.

When we found out that we could buy VIP passes from the RIT bookstore, we started going more cuz those VIP passes were $5.50 each and could be used for any movie that was at least 2 weeks old (2 weeks after released). Today, those VIP passes are $6 to $6.50. That's certainly a lot better than $10. ;)

I'm guessing the whole deal with rising ticket prices has to do with greediness between Hollywood and the theatre companies.
I still remember the days tickets were $4-5 here, I have a stub sitting around somewhere with that. I think it was for the matrix.

But to provoke your thoughts, think about it from this edge.

The budget needed to create a movie these days costs way more than it did in the 90's, or even 80's. They are shelling out millions of bucks just to get the scene right, nice effects, or desired actors. The ability to create action effects are much more possible today than they were before.. at the expense of $$$.

Now how are they gonna make that money back? Hope they get more viewers while keeping the same ticket price? This will cause the lines to flood even more.. Did you remember waiting in line for Dark Knight or any of the other Star Wars movies?

This is probably one of the small reasons why.. Instead of having two people pay $5, it sounds more reasonable to have one pay $10 while increasing the seats available per viewing thus increasing profits. Market strategy.. I'm theorizing.

Even notice the ads/previews for the movies now? They're always interesting things and stuff compared to what they used to have before. Remember those dumb Q and A's about movie and actors that you'd have to endure the boredom through till the movie started?

Here's some budgets for major hit movies in chronological order:

Year - Name - Budget Spent/Gross Earned

2008 Quantum of Solace - $230million/$169million
2008 The Dark Knight - $185million/$533million
2007 Spiderman 3 - $285million/$336million
2006 Casino Royale - $102million/$167million
2005 Batman Begins - $150million/$205million
2004 Napolean Dynamite - $400k/$44million
1999 The Matrix - $65million/$171million
1999 Star Wars: Phantom Menace - $115million/$431million
1998 Saving Private Ryan - $65million/$216million
1995 Goldeneye $60million/$106million
1991 Terminator 2 - $100million/$204million
1980 Star Wars: Empire Strikes back - $23million/$290million
1977 Star Wars: A New Hope - $11 million/$460million

I still hate high prices, but I can understand why they are raising it.. I guess some things you just can't control.
