Last night when I was reading posts in AllDeaf and I opened a thread under General Discussions and while I was reading a few posts I did not know my 9 years old son was standing behind me ( I think he was waiting to get my attention ) and seeing the startled look on his face....Then, I realized the posts I had been reading contained several words of sexual content....

I do feel very uncomfortable as a parent by having to keep looking behind my back every so often to be sure that none of my three children is not standing by and able to see what is posted....I do feel and wish words used that describes things or actions in a sexual way could be refrained ( keep-out ) of these general topics and kept where it's most appropriate which is in the ' Penisarium ' Threads....I do find some of these posts funni and I do not want to come across in a way that looks like I am complaining....And since I can not hear when any of my children is coming into the room to get my attention, I don't feel that I must tell them to get my attention differently because they're my children and they shouldn't feel restricted when approaching me!...

How would you feel about this if you were in the same situation with children around you or people that works with you?...Feel Free to share your view and opinion on this.....

what i can suggest to u since i don't have any children .. but i always think ahead of times if the kid ever come into my life , turn the computer desk opposite where u can see the door so that way u can see the kids come in ... unless ur in livingroom it is tough call !!

I can relate with you, Angel. As an aunt of three budding teenagers-to-be, I must be very careful of when and where I read AllDeaf. I was once caught reading Penisarium when my oldest niece stood behind me and my niece and nephew are Deaf, too. My youngest is hearing but knows to tap on my shoulder since I'm Deaf. I felt really put on the spot because I really learnt my lesson not to any threads from AllDeaf when any children was around. I even admitted to my sister what happened and she was honest and said this had happened to her, too. I learnt my lesson and preferred to read AllDeaf only at my PC which was at own privacy. You're not the only one, Angel and the feelings you feel are perfectly natural. It shows you are a very good mother that is genuinely concerned about the welfare of her children. Be glad for your son's shocked reaction because some children would be too curious about the internet. It is better safe than sorry. It shows you have intelligent children with common sense. :)

My sons are older now.... If I were in your shoes. I would not open the site AllDeaf during the daytime. I would wait for the children in their beds. I can read the AllDeaf.

We can't prevent the adults's conversation in this site. The parents are responsbility to not open the site while the children are around. I know, it is very hard on the adults.

Just like my friends are adult. We do talk nasty or swear in our conversation. We must more careful and keep our eyes on to make sure that children are not around.

We must careful what we talk while children were around.

Yeah, I know because this happened was the same with me, too...

I didn´t pay the attention that my sons was behind my back when I opened the dirty emails & also Penisarium, too.
I feel very uncomfortable to see their "shock" impression faces & ask me questions etc.. "What´s there...etc" You can image how I feel when they questions me like this... I answer their question carefully.
I learn my lesson for be careful next time so I did suggest my friends to add "Adult" on the subject of dirty emails, that I will know I won´t open when I see the subject "Adult" until my sons are in the bed..
I also won´t open Pensisarium, too until they are in the bed or they play outside...

^Angel^ I couldn't agree with you More. I think it would be proper to have sexual contents Should be in Private area like Penisarium Threads. Sometimes I do not think and Post some in General Discussions, I should be more Careful.

I didn't know AllDeaf was a ' Porn ' Site or a X-Rated online site.... :ugh:

Besides, my two older children are in school during the day and my youngest son who is only 4 is home and doesn't read as well...

I can relate, too. I usually have AllDeaf up a lot during the day...and when the kids are around, I usually stay away from Penisarium or any threads that would have the potential to make them wonder...

I'm lucky though, because my boys really are not interested in what I do online...my daughter though, seems to like watching me play some games, like Yahoo! games, etc. So when she's around, I usually don't post. I know that some members like posting nasty photos (and that's ok, LOL, just not something she should see! Especially Penisarium photos. :))

Don't worry about it, ^Angel^, dear. It happens...kids are going to see things that they shouldn't...no matter what. Other kids in school are going to use foul language or show dirty pictures...All you can do hon, is ask your son what he saw, and what he thinks. Then, explain to him some of it? It's better that he is spoken to about things of sexual nature from a parent, or a trusted family friend/member.

Another thought - maybe if a post is going to include something that is NOT kid-friendly, we could issue a little warning at the top? Like...(NKS)...to mean "not kid safe." Something to that extent...it can't hurt. :)

Yeah, I know.. Sure, It´s normal for my sons know about sex through school & also from us. BUT that´s different with that "Porn" what I mean... (lick the pussy, suck the cock, etc etc...) it shock my sons because they didn´t know what kinds of "Porn" like this...
That´s why I decide to do is asked my friends to put "Adult" when they do with dirty emails...
I alway open Penisarium when my sons are not around. (in the bed or go out with mates).

Your is lucky... :fly:

angel, i do uddy what u mean.. oh well, i think best for u to check alldeaf while they are at school and they are in bed... but really it not ur fault cuz of UNEXPECT that dirty talk in there General Discussions sometime.. u know what i mean??? :)

Yes, Socrates...
So am I. When I was reading the AllDeaf.com as for my browsing reading... Sometimes I can feel something funny in my guts which whoever standing behind me.. so decide to stop browsing AllDeaf.com for short time.. *Pretend I was acting up.. ahh boring click on minz down* I turned around caught my daughter.. Asked her what's up.. She talking about AllDeaf.com stuff.. I was kind felt funny that she quite talk AllDeaf.com quite big open concept details. My head went sit back far away... "Whoa, Wait minutes, What r trying to saying something about it?" Ahh.. She had been snooped in my site favorite personal bookmarked and reading the AllDeaf.com and loved to try answer her details but can't.. and tells me. I think best interest all everyones who have their children.. Best not use computer while you browsing on AllDeaf.com or else.. Best wait until kids goes to school or bedtime whatever. That what am I doing.. Only the way one ticket than sorry.
I do certinally agree with Angel and Socrates...

I can see that a few people are not understanding ^Angel^'s Post.. She meant was when you are looking at AllDeaf you go in General Discussions and You see some Sexual Conversation Which should not be posted under that Forum.. It should be kept private away from Children and Teens.. Not only that our Children to see its for Everyone. When someone going through a webpage and pulled up AllDeaf as a guest and Look through all the General Discusssions and come across some Sexual content....How can u Explain that to some of the Children or Teens that goes across that forum by accident without knowing there some Sexual Contents in there... That is why we have a private area for Sex and Pornophotos in Penisarium Thread...That we do know we Could not do that in front of our Children or having other Children or Teens under the age of 18 viewing that area cuz it is being kept Private...

That the whole Point of her Post.. As I am thinking of what she is saying how to protect that from happening again when You have no idea there are going to be some dirty Language in General Discusssions, and Happen to see it by accident and having the Child/Children see that without Notice.

I see Most of you are saying to do not open AllDeaf when Children are around sounding like Alldeaf isn't for Anyone which AllDeaf is for Everyone expect certain area are not allowing to view for Children/Teens under 18 years of Age...

i always check out my e mail or alldeaf letter when my kids go to bedtime or go to school when the kids are not here so i can use the computer... sometime i have to hurry to check out my e mail ...
i told my two daughters that i dont like when my kids stand behind my back when i am deaf and i cant feel when my kids walk a creak on the floor or stand behind my back so i decided and changed my way , when my kids are in school and i can use the computer and when my kids go to bedtime and i can use the computer again. thats best way i do that all the times. but i never like to sit the computer all day and it is not good and ignorce my kids activity ....
when my kids use the computer and i have to stand by my kids computer and watch on them because i dont want my kids learn a pronography or dirty ( sex body ) ... thats why i have to stand by them .... and my kids insult on med and it is not fair when i wont let my kids stand by me and i told my kids that my kids have to follow my rules in my house ! and my kids said nothing one words and respect me !

Of course I open AD post when the children are around but one, I didn´t open is Penisarium or dirty emails with "Adult" on the subject until they are in the bed or go out...
I also open Penisarium in the morning when my sons are still sleeping until 9.00 pm because I´m morning person... I get up at 6.30pm to 7.30pm...

I do notice some of dirty words under the general discussion...

even tho i dont have human kids here -- just cats  and obviously they dont know how to read

humor aside -- granted true sometimes parents would be busted by their kids reading adult content threads in AD or on emails -- i would put on the title "adult content" or when i get an email that was of an adult oriented thing and i want to fwd i tend to put in "no kids!" or "adult oriented" as a warning to those friends who are parents so they can skip that email for a later time after the kids are either in bed or at school and the household is quiet without the racket of kids playing and etc -- has worked pretty well so far since ive not gotten any emails from parents saying that they were busted by their kids --

i agree with Malfoyish's comment of talking to the child if the parent was busted by the kid for reading the adult content thread -- shes also right, the kids WILL eventually learn from other kids, school and etc

^Angel^ i totally agree with you 100%. I don't have kids or anything but sometimes it is shocking to read things under general discussion and come across some pretty explicted things.

I'll be sure to watch what i say more often, as i happen to be a chronic swearer myself. Thanx for bringing it up.*hugs*

i also agree with angel hence my not actually posting alot even tho i am an adult i do RESPECT my parents home reason being thier older and they can just come in unexpected cuz i just feel not comfy when im posting something so i try not to post to much these days and i know i have friends WHO are parents and i dont go to my websites when thier around!

Anyhow i know one thing its best doing this when kids arent s around u can't *block* general discussion u know there will be cuzzing and etc. theres really nothing you can do and i think its best that u can just check the puter when the kids are in school and after bedtime and if u want to make sure this doesn't happen again and yr online while the kids are in the living room and ur puter is in there then change the computer lay out for the purpose to keep an eye on the kids plus knowing where they are would also help in all aspect too. this is my best suggestion and i pretty much agree with most of the others, its pretty a moot point here angel honey, no matter what u do and how hard you try to prevent anyone seeing this dirty words or etc, yr better off changing yr timing of being online cuz kids will be kids and they will find things out regardless.

(((((((angel))))))))) hang in there

That's life. Nothing is 100% pure and clean. Something will always happen. Of course, many of us swear and there is nothing we can do about it. We can't be blocking out every swear word that goes on in this forum. If we were to keep changing rules and things just to make specific people happy, this forum would become too boring and everyone would lose interest in it. It's like my family. The only ones who enjoy visiting my house are the ones who go to church 3 times a week. Other than that, no one wants to visit because they know that no matter what they do... they will be criticized for their actions. I have friends who come to visit. After they leave, my mom will be yelling at me just because of some shirt a friend of mine wore. There was another time when she yelled at me because my friend kissed his girlfriend upstairs. It wasn't a make-out kiss, just a kiss from lip to lip. Sure, they're religious and I respect that... but this is reality. Nothing is perfect. If your son saw it, oh well... deal with it. It shouldn't be any concern unless he brings it up or you feel that he actually understands what's going on. If you're really concerned, you can wait and visit AllDeaf when they aren't around like in bed or at night. If the computer is in your own room, it might be good to set up the computer so that people can't sneak in behind you while you're on the internet. The computer in my parent's house is in a place that I hate. Anyone can sneak in on me. Once, I was telling my friend that I was going to meet him soon. My mom walked in and saw the message, then got nosy about where I was going. Jeez! Sometimes, we gotta work harder to make things work. We can't expect others to do it for us all the time.

I completely understand you about how you are feeling about this! I know we are not supposed to post something dirty or swear words, but we're mostly adults here. Most of the time, we do not think before we post. Yes, we should take some cautions before posting something that should belong to Penisarium. However, we can't stop other members to post those things. So, like other members are saying, read AllDeaf.com when your kids are sleeping or away. Otherwise, move your computer desk to your bedroom or someplace private. Sorry that your kids have to see AllDeaf.com. :D

It is the responsibility of the adults (parents, etc) to not expose kids to these mature content as far as it is within their beliefs to shelter young kids. If it's accidental, the kid will survive and hey, a formal explanation would be needed IMO. No problem, right? That's how I feel. The kids are resilient and smart, and it will be fine once you explain stuff in words that are appropiate for age groups. I'd feel embarassed and then laugh about it.
