Granny's taking computer classes ;)

That sounds like a long road for a granny to take. I would have never imagined other grannies trying their hand at the same thing.
At least, on the side all this coding will keep your mind sharp.

I always get surprised by sharp grannies. They're too sharp for their age.
Kudos to you for your goals and accomplishments in doing so!

:ty:

It keeps me off the streets.

I am proud of you Reba Good lucky! keep up work best!

Well, this granny has gone back to school to get an associate in applied science degree, information systems specialist career path.

I have a BS in political science so I was able to transfer a few credits but not many. I should be able to take most, if not all, my classes on line.

I just finished my first course last week. It was a Maymester class. That means, we do one full semester in less than three weeks. Instead of turning in an assignment once a week, we turn one in every day. Whew!

My course was Computers and Programming. It's mostly learning the fundamentals of computer logic and how to do Visual Basic programming. It included 12 assignments and two tests (which consisted of more programming). I got my final grade today. It's a 97.08, which is an A.

Tomorrow I start two courses, AS/400 Operations, and Basic Computer Concepts. This is Summer semester, so it's a little slower pace than Maymester but quicker pace than Spring and Fall.

We'll see how this old lady keeps up.

I LOVE Visual Basic as I have used Visual Basic for about 16 years now. I remember I started out with Visual Basic 3.0!

Now I'm taking a class where we are introduced to Alice 2.0. animations. It's fun. :)

My other class is iIBM server. I don't really like it. I'm keeping an A average in that but I don't enjoy it.

Yes because you are not an IBM'er <grin>

Probably. It could also be the format of the class assignments that I don't like. I suppose if I used it every day it would be easier.

I'm also not crazy about the black screens that we use. It's harsher on my eyes.

Last Saturday, I was able to participate in a volunteer event for computer students. We met that morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help recycle old computers for needy organizations. I got some hands-on experience with the hardware, and learned about the various ways they recycle old 'puters.

old lady who live next door to me is 93 she taught herself the computer this year and learning russian also teaching some young portugese boys english, she sold her car today but only cos she going blind and i saw her lugging the lawn mower around doing garden..i asked her if she wanted my husband to help and her answer was i dont need no bloody man helping me...she say she got to 93 cos no man in life if had man she reackon not have made it to 93,fair point

I have a Bachelor of Science in Info Tech.

Do you have to take up C++, Java, HTML, and SQL classes?

I have had to take up MANY of those, as listed:

Programming
- Quick Basic Programming
- Visual Basic Programming
- C++ (both Data structures and Object-oriented)
- Java
- HTML and Dynamic HTML (CSS, JavaScript)
- PHP
- SQL and PL/SQL

Networking and PCs
- Networking Basics
- PC Configuration
- Windows Admin
- Web Servers and ASP
- Linux Admin (ugh!)
- Firewalls
- Network Security
- Computer Forensics

General Info Systems
- Intro to Info Systems
- System Development
- Electricity and Electronics
- Project Management

Best of luck on those classes there, Reba. :)

I'm going for an associate degree, which is 72 hours, so I don't need as many classes. :)

It depends on which track I take as to which courses I'll take.

Oh I see, mine is 120 hours because of bachelor degree in IT.

I only have about 80 credits to left now.
