BOSTON - Police say a frustrated Boston woman called police to say she couldn't get her 14-year-old son to stop playing video games and go to sleep.

Police spokesman Officer Joe Zanoli said Monday the mother called for help around 2:30 a.m. local time Saturday to say that the teenager also walked around the house and turned on all the lights.

Two officers who responded to the house persuaded the child to obey his mother.

Zanoli says the mother's police call over video game obsession "was a little unusual, but by no means is it surprising - especially in today's day and age when these kids play video games and computer games."

The Boston Herald first reported the police call, saying the boy was playing the popular "Grand Theft Auto" game.

I'm not surprised. I'm friends with many video game addicts who take them way too seriously.

My husband have this kind game. The sign said "M" it mean 17 age over mature. The mother's son is 14 years old. That is bad. How did he get the game "Grand Auto Theft" from??? He suppose not play this game because of his age.

It's depends on parent, some parent allows children or teens to play GTA or M rated games.

I started play GTA when I was 9 years old in 1998 on PS1.

This is why I tell my son the game is for the whole family. If he cross the line, I plan on selling the game. It would not be his to keep.

I would have unplugged the damn game and put it up.

Sad to see that parents allow their kids to rule the roots around the house.

Is GTA on M rated game?? I never play this game. I'm not a boy or male.

Parents need to be responsible to check all rated on games before children play this game. My husband will not let our kids play game "M" rated game until they are mature enough to play at age 17.

I watched what my husband doing with Grand Auto Theft. There have sex, stripper, drugs, gambles and other. That is bad influence to 14 years old boy to play.

I will be strict parent! I can make a house rules for kids play on video games for 1 to 2 hours limited. If they are not in school and can play in the weekend only. The kids go to school and not let them play games in the week.

For me, I would spank the child or take games away.

I'm difference from you, I would allows teenagers (under 17) to play GTA games if they are good behavior, especially no impact on behavior but every children are different.

This game is just fun but not for real life, even it has no porn or will re-rate to Adult Only (AO).

Yup, parents can do different thing to control the children whatever they want.

My kids have video games.. When I tell them to turn it off. That is what they do... Otherwise. I unplug it and put it up.

If they give me a hard time.. Then I do not allow them to play them for a while.

The games is a reward to them. They do well in school, homework, chores and what ever else is expected from them.. Then I allow them to play.

It is not something that a parent absolutely has to allow their kids to have. It is a privilege..

Well said!

It is a privilege, not a right.

This is the problem with today's youth. They feel they are entitled to everything hence the self-entitlement issues.

They believe they do not have to work, do not have to say their "Please, Thank You, Yes, No, Ma'am, Sir" and so on.

Back then, saying "Yes, please, ma'am" was proper language and nowadays, we have to train our youth to say this but we are met with so much contempt/protests.

It is called having spoilt children.

I wonder if the mother tried to get her son to stop playing the game but he wont let her stop? Something about him turning on all of the lights make me wonder.

Right on, Babyblue!!....I've got 3 boys and I don't take any shyt from them. If I find a game on the floor...then it's broken! and thrown away....The games are so expensive, they don't belong on the floor.

I also limit the time for them playing and make them go outside, get fresh air (if the weather permits), if not, then they have board games or watch TV.

You have to keep on top of kids! I've never had to call the police on my boys for their behavior. If ever, at any time they disrespect me for any issue, the games are taken away, along with not using the computer or the phone! And grounded for 2 weeks. You gotta be tough these days. Some parents just don't know how to be parents....you can't demand Respect from ur child, you have to earn it, and ur word is law!

You'll be charged as child abuse.

He can't spank at 14 years old. But he can spank child under 8 ages. I know the fourteen years old boy is rebellion and not obey to his mom. His mom take the video games away and ground on him.

There are some 14 year olds who are bigger than their mothers and are physically abusive towards them. That's why I wouldnt jump to conclusions about how the mother disciplines him. I feel we dont have enough info. My 21 year old brother is a lot bigger than my dad and stepmom and he has gotten physical with them for not getting his way and hurted them badly. He put my dad in the hospital once and the authorities had the balls to question my dad for child abuse.

I feel we dont know the full story and there are some strong and determined 14 year olds out there who wouldnt hesistate to knock their parents around.

Just my 2 cents.
