    Falling Skies

I've been watching. Season 3 is definitely looking better plot-wise than the first two. I enjoy it and look forward to it more every year. Definitely takes a minute to grow on a person. When the first season aired, I stopped watching after 3 episodes, got bored, then got back into it three weeks...

    Deaf characters in fiction

I agree with the others. Go for it, dude. Since you're already considerate enough to oddly ask permission, then it seems you'll definitely do all the research you need to make your story and the character work for you. I wrote a Deaf character in a horror story when I was still in high school...

    Completed Television Series?

I watch a lot of TV, so almost every show on everyone else's list, including the sitcoms Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond, King of the Hill, King of Queens and Malcolm in the Middle. I've seen all of Firefly, which is unjustly 1 season long, multiple times. Shows I'm watching that are near...

    Hemlock Grove

I love Hemlock! I really hope it's renewed. Have you heard any news on whether it's coming back for a 2nd season? It's definitely one of those shows that take a few episodes to warm up. Once the plot starts rolling and you become invested in the characters, it's easy to get into.

    Game of Thrones

Yeah, I heard the author is dragging his butt with finishing the books. Season 3 was a great season. The episode "Rains of Castamere" has permanently traumatized me and what's worse is that the song was stuck in my head for days, along with the image of the medieval shiv right to the poor lady's...

Sign Language Encounter: Days that make you think

Aw, I'm sorry. Bad day? No worries, I totally get what you're saying. My Mom and I thought that a few times throughout the day, but still didn't want to chance it in case he was being honest. I don't like to think people (signing or not) are trying to scam me. I've helped people on the...

Sign Language Encounter: Days that make you think

haha No that's the thing, I do not want to be an interpreter of any of the languages I study. I learn languages for fun, not for work. My epiphany was "hey, that's okay." :)

Michigan Native American Tribal Chairman Signs Gay Marriage Bill

Happy to hear about this. Michigan needs some good news for once. I've been hearing about too much negative, mostly coming from my own city, Detroit. Glad something good's going on admist all the crap.

Lesbian 'brutally beaten by girlfriend's brother at thanksgiving dinner dont approve

That is rough. Knowing her family was crazy, maybe the girl shoulda told the girlfriend to skip this one. We know our families and most of what they're capable of. Especially with something like their opinion on her sexuality, she most likely had an strong inkling that they'd at least be cold...

Sign Language Encounter: Days that make you think

Walking through Downtown Detroit today, I was signing my Mom's conversation as she spoke on the phone out of boredom. We crossed the street, I picked up my hand's again, and then some guy stops me and signs "Deaf?" Me:  "No, hearing..." This encounter made my day. :D:D His name is...

Did I offend my friend? If so, how?

Yikes. I leave for a few weeks and this is still going on. haha There actually was no weirdness with my friend after all. I just jumped to conclusions because there was a long silence that I didn't know how to interpret, so...yeah, that's over. Also, never said I wanted hearing loss. I...

Did I offend my friend? If so, how?

You are right Laura. Sorry Anij, but that is not what glasses do. I wear glasses also and my vision will never be normal, even with them on. In fact, just like my friend with her hearing, my vision will continue to get worse as I get older. And my friend also wears glasses and is blind in one...

Did I offend my friend? If so, how?

I have great news! I talked to my friend and got straight to the point. I asked "do I ever cross any lines with you about your HAs and HOHness? Because I felt weird about saying "oh that's cool, I wish I had one" and some people told me you could have felt belittled. I know I joke around a...

Did I offend my friend? If so, how?

Thank you, it does. This makes me feel a little frustrated because I wish she would just tell me she felt that way, eh but I understand it is difficult to open up about certain things. While I do not struggle with hearing, I did struggle with speech when I was younger. I have opened up to her...

Did I offend my friend? If so, how?

Hm... I see what you mean, Anij. So the next time we talk, I will not assume she understands what I mean and she will not assume she knows what I mean. This was both of our faults then, yes? Problem solved. This is good! Dekuji, thank you. :) Now, the reason I did not say "while I don't want...

Did I offend my friend? If so, how?

I did not say I wish I needed HAs. Thank you for understanding this. I feel like if I bring it up now, it would be like asking for her apology, in which case I would only be doing if I did something wrong, which I no longer feel I did. This is a communication problem, it happens to be all the...

Did I offend my friend? If so, how?

Hm. But I was not belitting her issue. I was not saying "that's cool to be HOH, I wish I was too." I only liked the device because I think it's a cool device. I look at HAs as just a thing alone, not attached to being a certain kind of peson (HOH or deaf.) I like it on it's own as a piece of...

Did I offend my friend? If so, how?

Okay, my friend and I have been in University together for a year and a half now. She developed a mild hearing loss when she was in high school and wears hearing aids. She's always been okay with answering any questions I've had about her hearing loss or hearing aids. Her Mother is an...

    Effing hate my "deaf accent"!!!

I'm hearing, so I don't have a deaf accent. However, my speech did regress when I was younger because I have a form of Autism. For some odd reason I went from not speaking, to speaking with a stupid stutter. It was very infuriating a lot of the time, but now that I think about it my speech...
