    Audism

I totally agree! When I went deaf, the only person who learned ASL with me in my family is my little brother. My parents insisted I lipread, and even now (six years later) when my family is around they tend to either totally ignore me or talk to me really slowly and loudly and point to things to...

Late Deafened....When did you Come out of the Closet

I went deaf when I was twelve, and so my family and friends have known since then. Now I can lip-read a bit, so I don't tell people that I'm deaf unless I don't understand them, although my speech is a bit funky so I think people guess anyway. My family, though, won't learn to sign (except for...

    Your very, very first relationship...

    1) My first relationship lasted a bit over 8 months. 2) In my relationship I thought that I was being treated the way I deserved to be, but later on I realized that the way he treated me was abusive. What you expect from your ideal guy...

Hmmm...good question :hmm: I personally like everything to be laid out in the open, because then you really feel part of the other person's life and informed and such. Also, if you are looking for a really serious relationship, then eventually you will run out of surprises if you are together...

how do I tell this hearing guy....

So I sort of met this hearing guy at the bookstore I'm at all the time. He works there, and he is always there when I go, and I sort of stare at him alot.... Anyway, I told him yesterday that I thought he seemed sweet because he is always smiling and talking to everyone, and he gave me his phone...

    Hi Everyone!

My name is Shannon and I'm new! I went deaf (mostly, at least) when I was twelve and had pnemonia. My whole family is hearing, and only my dad knows ASL, so I mostly talk and lipread a bit. Anywho, I just wanted to say hi, and I hope I can meet a bunch of new friends here!
