Can You Hear or Feel The Music?.....

vibrations in my ears I hear most music fairly well--even w/o hearing aids. But music sounds so much fuller and richer with them in. I especially like to listen to a piano and hear AND feel vibrations in my ears AND put my hand on the piano. It's almost like touch and hearing become one sense.

    "Storytelling" and "The Deaf Community"

another look A few months ago, I went back to the church with the storytelling. It is much closer to where I live than the Deaf Church I had been going to awhile back. Nobody else at the "storytelling church" can sign. When I went back, I found out some people there had missed me. It was really...

    Asperger Syndrome--let's discuss

my experience I was (finally) correctly diagnosed with "moderate AS" a little over two years ago. I also found out (more recently) that I have PTSD. I also have OCD, TS, and an IQ in the "exceptionally gifted" range. I have some "savant" talents: languages/linguistics, tech work (computers...

    gay interpreters.

interesting issue I am HOH Aspie, and I use a "terp" for a few situations (doctor appts, OT, etc). I identify as gay, but I have never had any problems with "terps" because of "orientation" issues.

    Total Communication

use a "terp" sometimes, but I often "voice" for myself. Some places, I am oral. Other places, I am mostly manual. sometimes I use SIM-COM. I like to communicate in whatever way I can. Sometimes people don"t really understand that I might want to spend time in "both worlds." TOTAL COMMUNICATION...

    Im glad to be deaf!!

refreshing perspective It is so REFRESHING to read so many positive comments. Most books about "deafness/hearing loss" treat deafness/Deafness as some kind of horrible tragedy. I don't see it that way. I associate the word "Deaf" with warmth and honesty and clear communication and Deaf-hugs. Of...

    CDI: Certified Deaf Interpreter

"heard" of it I had read about CDI's and have served as a "go between" (a few times) between someone who is (fully) Deaf and someone who is (fully) Hearing, who did not know Sign. Someone at my church (a very skill signer and "inclusion" teacher) told me recently that I have a "gift" for...

    interpreter problems...

horrified in Ohio/way to go! Wow! I live in the Miami Valley in Ohio and I KNOW where Centerville is. It is WONDERFUL that you are able to play in the band and go to classes with a "terp." There is NO EXCUSE for behavior like that on the part of an interpreter ANYTIME or ANYWHERE. As for...

    "Shifting" or "reactive" tinnitus issues.

"screwy" ears Wow! Sometimes I put my HA's on "t-coil" and the "buzzing" covers up the tinnitus. I, too, sense vibrations in my ears as well as hearing sound through my HA's. It helps me "keep time" better when I play percussion in a local "community band." I will often keep my hand on a...

    who has a fluctating loss?

good day(s), bad day(s) I am HOH and I wear HA's in both ears. I am FINALLY getting "comfortable" with myself as simply HOH: neither (fully) Hearing, nor (fully) Deaf. In a few situations, I CAN function as "oral," but I tire of asking people to repeat themselves. My ability to use my residual...

    Abr test results

yeah, mine was annoying, too My ABR experience was a nightmare (as I have said before). Even though I had a "terp," the "audi" was NOT helpful. Wanted to take my glasses away (VERY nearsighted). I refused. Wanted to turn out (all?) the lights. I refused. Got right in my face (literally), so...

    Your Opinion about Signing Songs?

changing perspective I used to sign around a "Hearing group" only very rarely. But, I started signing songs for "praise time" (casual worship) at a church function every Friday night. At first, I wasn't sure if it would "add" anything, since most do not understand the signs. However, several...

Performers of Classical Music Can Suffer from Hearing Problems, Too

good point This article is well worth reading.

testing question....without my hearing aids of course lol

hard to tell sometimes SOMETIMES it is kind of hard to tell whether a person has (C)APD or SNHL (or AN). Unless you get a "complete" hearing evaluation. (It kind of depends on WHICH tests are done.) I had an audiologist practically INSIST that I had (C)APD simply because I have Asperger's...
